tour of RFK stadium

Does anyone know if you can tour or visit RFK Stadium if there is no game? Unfortunately, we%26#39;re in town while the Nationals are away but my son would still like to visit the ballpark (and get a Soriano shirt!). Any idea?

They don%26#39;t offer tours. Frankly, RFK falls into the void of not being one of the newer retro ballparks, and not old enough to be considered a classic like Fenway or Wrigley on which the retros are based.

As the Nationals temporary home until their park is completed (2008?), there frankly has been little reason to put a lot of investment into the type of things that would be appealing on a ballpark tour. In short, if there were a tour, there really wouldn%26#39;t be much to see.

Built in 1961, it was the first ';modern'; concrete multipurpose design that so many cities (Philly, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Atlanta) put up in the 1960s and %26#39;70s which they%26#39;ve since demolished.

The Orioles ballpark offer tours, if Jr%26#39;s interested!

Are you flying to DC? If so, he can most likely pick up a shirt at one of the airport stores and save you the trip to the ballpark.

I don%26#39;t believe the Nationals have a retail store outside of the park, however the Team Store is open on non-game days per their website, so if you have a car or are taking the metro, you can probably take a peek at the park while you are there:

Team Store Hours:

Monday 鈥?Saturday 鈥?10 AM 鈥?6 PM

Sunday 鈥?12 PM 鈥?4 PM

Free parking in front of the Team Store is available for customers on non-game days.

Fans call (202-675-9683) for more information.

Thanks so much for the replies. Sounds like maybe we%26#39;ll hit the team store and see if we can get a peek while we%26#39;re there. Or maybe stop in Baltimore on our drive home.
