Other hotels near Marriott Wardman Park?

I%26#39;m visiting DC for a conference at Marriott Wardman Park in late September -- got a decent group rate for 2 nights but there is no availablity for the first night. Could you please recommend a near-by hotel for one night? I%26#39;m tempted to bid on priceline.com but this part belongs to a business trip so I%26#39;m not sure if it would be okay with my company.

I am also considering staying in DC for 2 more nights (at my own expense of course) if I can obtain good hotel price from priceline. Should I stay in the general area -- dopont circle/woodleypark or try a different location?

Thanks

The Omni Shoreham is the closest full-service hotel in the area. You could also try the Jurys Normandy Hotel. It%26#39;s a bit of a walk, but shouldn%26#39;t be too bad (maybe 1/2 mile / 10 minutes).

For your personal stay, that is a nice area, so you may want to stay around Woodley Park or Dupont. You may want to compare the deal you get on Priceline with the Woodley Park Guest House, if you don%26#39;t mind staying in a B%26amp;B instead of a hotel.

I live in the Dupont/Woodley Park neighborhood and love it. It is pretty safe and there are always lots of people walking on the main streets at night. The Omni Shoreham is the closest (just a couple of blocks away). Within walking distance (5-10 minutes) are a Hilton, a Marriott, and the Churchill Hotel on Connecticut Avenue by T Street. My grandmother stayed at the Churchill last time she visited, and it was beautiful inside - I think it%26#39;s on a National Historic Registry.

I heard great things about Jury%26#39;s Hotel, which is right by the Dupont Metro (one stop away from Woodley Park). Dupont%26#39;s a very hip neighborhood and is close to downtown.

If you%26#39;re planning your personal stay for the weekend, the prices should drop dramatically at most business hotels.

Just to clarify - there are two Jurys Hotels. One is the Jurys Normandy, which is several blocks north of Dupont Circle (so more convenient to the Wardman Park). The other is right on the circle, called Jurys Washington. Of course, if you%26#39;re right at Dupont, it%26#39;s not a bad walk if the weather is nice or you can hop on the metro for one stop to avoid walking up the hill.

The Dupont Circle/Kalorama/Woodley Park area is my *favorite* neighborhood in which to stay while visiting DC, so I%26#39;d encourage you to ';hang out'; there even after the conference is over.

Just so you know... the Jurys Washington at Dupont Circle is a full-service hotel; the Jurys Normandy (just off Conn. Ave, on Wyomng St. %26amp; therefore closer to the Marriott) is not: it%26#39;s a smaller, ';inn'; type establishment with, e.g., no bar or restaurant -- although they do offer a light breakfast (for a small additional charge of, I recall, $6). I would say the Normandy is about equidistant from the Woodley Park and the Dupont Circle Metro stations. The walk between the two stations (about 1 mile) is very pleasant; Conn. Ave. between Wyoming and the Woodley Park Metro is more residential -- lovely vintage apartment buildngs and some embassies. The stretch between Dupont Circle and Wyoming is somewhat of an incline, but not a daunting hill (unless your mobility is limited).

The Hilton and the Westin Embassy Row are the hotels typically won in that Priceline area, but check out the boards at betterbidding.com for the most current info %26amp; useful bidding tips. HAVE FUN -- September is a great time to be in DC :-)

Thank you all for your helpful remarks.
