Crabcakes?

Since Washington is so near Maryland I was wondering if it is a good place to find well excellent crabcakes. We have a huge family to pay for so we can%26#39;t go to a restaurant at the Ritz , if you know what I mean. I am thinking more along the lines of a diner. (?)

Crabcakes?

Many local restaurants offer them - do a search of these forums, and you%26#39;ll find several recommendations.

Crabcakes?

There are a lot of places that sell crabcakes in DC. I don%26#39;t know of any diners that will sell a good crabcake. Simply because of the price of the crab meat. You want to make sure it%26#39;s not too much breading and you get Crab Meat not bread. and Real crab meat not immitation.

-Bravo-Bravo has one of my favorite crabcakes in DC. They might not be the best ';family'; atmosphere. But they do have private rooms that you could get and be away from everything else. Prices are reasonable. Main dishes are typically in the $11.00-$20.00 range and it%26#39;s not a fancy place.

-The Legal Seafood on K Street is nice as well. Might be a little expensive sometimes but not too bad. There are other locations but this one is probably my favorite. www.legalseafood.com

-Market Inn is always a favorite of mine. They have childrens menus and the service is sort of ';diner'; type, the same olde ladies have been working there forever with some young ones thrown in.

Prices are very reasonable I think for the amount of food you get.

Market Lunch at Easter Market is known for its crabcakes. It%26#39;s the closest thing you%26#39;ll find to a diner serving quality cakes in the District. www.easternmarket.net (limited hours).

Last year, Washingtonian did an article on the best crab cakes. Some of the places that might fit your budget:

CF Folks (1225 19th St., NW)

Clyde%26#39;s of Georgetown (3236 M St, NW)

And two that MrsMaryland mentioned - The Market Inn and Legal Seafood.

Enjoy!

If you have the time and a car, consider driving out to Annapolis. It%26#39;s not really crab season at that time of the year, but you can still get some excellent crab cakes. My favorite was always Buddy%26#39;s near City Dock in Annapolis.

I second the recommendations for Legal Seafood and Clydes.

Is the Quarterdeck in Arlington still in business? I used to love getting them there though it%26#39;s probably been about 8-10 years ago...

Yes, Clyde%26#39;s in GT is definitely a good crabcake. Try lunch -- you%26#39;ll get a crabcake on a soft roll with fries for around $10. Other meals are modestly priced as well.

Quarterdeck is still alive and well, although I haven%26#39;t had their crabcakes. Did all-you-can-eat crabs twice this summer and the crabs were very good both times.

I like Phillips. Great waterfront location and the crabcakes are very good.

If you are interested in trying Clydes, they will have the crabcakes available until Sept. 14 for $17.95. This dish comes with 2 sides. I had it recently and it was quite good. (www.clydes.com)
