Looking for charming Christmas hotel

It looks like we%26#39;ll be spending Christmas right in DC. Normally, I would choose a more family oriented hotel (and I still may) but I am worried about waking up Christmas morning without a fireplace and great Christmas tree. Is there a place you can recommend for a charming Christmas. If they don%26#39;t have a suite that accomodates 8 then I will need two connecting rooms (hopefully at least one of the rooms would have a sitting area. I don%26#39;t want our Christmas hotel to feel cold and sterile. Last year we were at Disney%26#39;s Wilderness Lodge which was lovely!

Have you looked into the Willard? They usually have a well-decorated lobby during the holidays, and with their location pn Pennsylvania Avenue between the White House and the Capitol, it makes for a great walk in the winter slush, with the decorated lampposts and the National Christmas Tree at one end of your stroll, and the Capitol Christmas Tree at the other!

Some places to consider (without knowing your price range...)

The Tabard Inn - I%26#39;m not sure if they have a Christmas tree, but you can always call and ask if they decorate. You can see their rooms on their website www.tabardinn.com. It%26#39;s a smaller hotel so it will have more of a homey feel.

Same idea at Swann House www.swannhouse.com, although it%26#39;s smaller and more expensive. Also a great location, near Dupont Circle.

As DrWong metioned, the Willard is a good choice in a great location. Some of the other historic, upscale hotels would probably suit what you%26#39;re looking for - the Jefferson, the Hay Adams, the Four Seasons. If those are too expensive, you might consider the JW Marriott or a place like the Hotel Lombardy - it offers suites, it%26#39;s near the Foggy Bottom metro (so good access to both Georgetown and the National Mall) and it has a more boutique feel, rather than something more cookie-cutter (like the Embassy Suites - not that there%26#39;s anything wrong with that or the ES - it%26#39;s a great, family friendly hotel).

As always, check the reviews first. Good luck finding something that works for you!

And even if you don%26#39;t stay at the Willard, make it a point to go and see it. They offer afternoon tea every day and probably have special dining/tea events during the holidays, too.
