Running in Washington DC

Here%26#39;s one that I%26#39;m sure you don%26#39;t see asked every day. Where%26#39;s the good places to run in Washington? I%26#39;ve heard that people jog at the Zoo and around the mall. Any other places near the Capital Hilton?

Running in Washington DC

Depends on your definition of ';near'; the Capital Hilton, you%26#39;ll pretty much need to either transport yourself or walk/run through city streets for at least a mile before you hit some major greenspace.

If you start from the Lincoln Memorial at the west end of the Mall and head north, the Rock Creek Parkway then Beach Drive (including the Zoo about 3 miles away) starts along the river. Or head south from this point and you%26#39;ll go through West then East Potomac Park for a nice 4 mile circuit.

I%26#39;m not from DC, but I noticed people asking questions like this in the Washington Running Report Forum. Here%26#39;s a link:

You can run south on 16th Street into Lafayette Park which is across from the White House. You can then run around either side of the White House to the Ellipse (a park), which is on the other side. From there, you can enter the National Mall near the Washington Monument and go either way towards the US Capitol or Lincoln Memorial.

If you run up 16th Street to the north, the surrounding streets of the Dupont Circle neighborhood are flat and offer up some really expensive rowhomes.

Thanks for the help guys. I also found this page: http://www.usatf.com/routes/

It allows you to do a path using Google Maps. It%26#39;s a pretty good tool to get an idea for a route.
