Hotel near DCA/Holiday Inn National

My dad%26#39;s going to the 57th Fighter Squadron Reunion at the above hotel. He hadn%26#39;t planned to go as he and his wife are in their 80%26#39;s and neither in the best of health, so they missed whatever deal the reunion might have provided on rates. But I%26#39;m flying to Pittsburgh and we%26#39;re driving on to Washington. We%26#39;d both like to see the World War II memorial, and the Air and Space Museum. We%26#39;d need two rooms, or a suite.

Rates reasonable for Fri/Sat ($139), but $259 Wed, Thurs. I plan on going and we%26#39;d need two rooms. They don%26#39;t have any Entertainment rates available that week. Any suggestions for nearby hotel, at least for myself, that%26#39;s more in the $150 range? At the above rate, I think I%26#39;d rather arrive a day later, but would love to see Washington--it%26#39;s been decades. I have to leave Friday, but they%26#39;ll be there through the weekend. Thanks!

The Holiday Inn National airport area would provide you with many hotel options. Check out the following.

-Courtyard Crystal City/ www.courtyard.com/ they give senior discounts at marriott hotels I believe unless it was just AAA

-Cyrstal City Marriott www.marriott.com/ they give senior discounts at Marriott Hotels.

-Residence Inn Crystal City www.residenceinn.com

-Embassy Suites www.embassysuites.com/ nice place and they serve free breakfast.

Or did you want to stay in DC closer to the memorials. Since they are very mobile, you might not want to use metro. A cab ride from Crystal City to downtown memorial areas, wouldn%26#39;t be too much for you all. Rates will be higher downtown unless they have a special. Some hotels will be higher than others.

When are you coming?

thanks for the suggestions

We were planning on coming Wednesday the 20th of Sept. The reunion starts Thursday evening. I just learned the hotel has no room availability for that entire time, and I don%26#39;t think they%26#39;ll tell you if it%26#39;s just one day they can%26#39;t cover. Sooo, kind of a problem. Not for me, but for my 80+ folks. I think we%26#39;ll come Thursday, and hope they can get a room there at least by Friday. I don%26#39;t mind being nearby

At least the reservation girl was helpful--she suggested a nearby hotel, would even book it, but over $300 per room per night. Surely, there%26#39;s something in the area, especially for the weekend, under or around $200.

Again, thanks for the help!

Did you try calling the hotel directly, or did you use the generic 1-800 number that sends you to someplace in India? Sometimes I%26#39;ve called the hotel directly and gotten the convention rate, or at least they%26#39;ve been able to tell me what days are available at that rate. The Americana Hotel is across Jefferson Davis Highway from the Holiday Inn - their rates are very affordable for DC, and your parents might actually like a place that reminds them of the motels they might have stayed in back in the 1960%26#39;s!

I%26#39;ve got everything fixed: staying at the Holiday Inn Thurs thru Sunday. Yes, I called the hotel directly and was told they had no room availability for my dates. I specifically asked if there were availability for any of the days, and was told no. Goofing off online, I checked for Fri and Sat, and, lo and behold, they had rooms! Tried Thurs, Fri, Sat, and again, rooms to be had. But none for Sunday. Strangely enough, rooms for Fri and Sat were $118/night. For Thur, Fri, Sat they were $238 Thurs, and $128 for Fri and Sat. So, I booked two rooms for Thurs at $238 each, then seperately one for Fri and Sat at $118 per night (I%26#39;m leaving Friday), Why the $10 difference if you book a Thursday also is beyond me.

My dad wants to leave Mon, and I bet will be able to extend if he%26#39;s already on site, or he can move across the street to the hotel mentioned above, or even leave a day early as he%26#39;s driving.

In all the searching, no two quotes seemed to be the same. Go figure. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. I%26#39;m so looking forward to this. These pilots are getting up there in age. They%26#39;ve got a bottle of very expensive brandy that the last man standing is supposed to drink in remembrance. Tomorrow is Patriot%26#39;s Day, and regardless of your views on the current war, I hope you%26#39;ll all fly your flag and call your favorite veteran to say thanks!

Skipaway:

Glad it worked out for you! Don%26#39;t forget to write up a hotel review after your stay - there are often people looking in the Crystal City area who will likely benefit from your experience. Have a nice trip.
