It's all happening at the ZOO

My wife and I are planning on going to the National ZOO during the Labor Day Weekend with some family that live in Front Royal VA. We want to take the Metro in and want to get to the zoo very early. We were thinking of having breakfast at or near the zoo. Anyone know of any places places to have a breakfast at or near the zoo that we could walk to? Thanks for your help.

There are lots of eating places around the Woodley Park/Zoo Metro station. Finding something suitable for everybody shouldn%26#39;t be a problem there. There%26#39;s also a small cafe across from the zoo and eating options inside that are a step or two above what the residents eat. :-)

At the Woodley Park metro stop:

Open City (2331 Calvert St. NW)

Woodley Cafe (2619 Connecticut Ave. NW) (opens at 9 am on weekends)

At the Cleveland Park metro stop:

Firehook Bakery (3411 Connecticut Ave. NW)

There%26#39;s also a Starbucks inside the Marriott Wardman Park at the Woodley Park metro or if you want a sit down meal, you could go into a restaurant in this hotel or in the Omni Shoreham down the road.

Maybe Cockle Cove can comment on breakfast at the Omni Shoreham if she%26#39;s reading...

If you take the Woodly Metro and walk to the zoo entrance, you%26#39;ll find a Starbucks directly across the street from the entrance. They have nice pastries and breakfast items as well as fruit juice. You won%26#39;t have a big breakfast, but it might be sufficient. We arrived at the zoo about 8 a.m. recently and were glad we did. Evidently the pandas go to sleep later in the morning. We were able to see the baby wake up its mother, nurse, and then proceed to eating shoots. The crowd was quite small then.

I knew there was a closer Starbucks!

The Omni offers your typical hotel breakfast... decent enough food, but waaay overpriced.
