hotel with breakfast

Can anyone suggest a decent hotel that gives breakfast

in with the price. We%26#39;re going in April. Are we better in the center of DC and walk, which we enjoy, or stay a bit out? Is it too far to walk from Dupont Circle-I see there are a lot of hotels there.

Something between $150 and $200 would be fine.

We sometimes stay at the Omni in LA but the Omni Shoreham does look far out.[and we get only juice and coffe as select guests]

-Embassy Suites (www.embassysuites.com) offers free made-to-order breakfast, there are several locations in the area. One is on 22nd Street in the Dupont Circle area and another nice one is near the Convention Center. I would go with the Dupont location. You should be able find pretty decent rates. But in DC the rates change all of the time. So you could pay $200.00 today and in January it%26#39;s $150.00 but rather reserve now than risk not having a room.

Depending on who you are coming with/ your ages/and likes and dislikes in regards to where you should stay.

Suggested areas:

-Georgetown (no metro access but easily accessible to downtown attractions and such) lots of shopping and dining here.

-Dupont Circle: some areas are more for business, some areas are in the heart of the entertainment, restaurants, etc.

-Adams Morgan/Woodley Park Zoo area: Not as many choices of hotels but it%26#39;s nice and a little laid back mostly residential but the Adams Morgan area is full of nightlife and restaurants, etc.

-Old Town Alexandria: very laid back and casual. Lots of nice little quaint shops, restaurants. Metro accessible for the most part. A few nice hotels in this area as well.

-Downtown: you have everything right within walking distance. You could stay in the area of the Verizon Center, Chinatown or maybe the Capitol Hill area. Would all be nice.

As for breakfast. In DC you can get a nice hearty meal at any of the cafes, shops for under $7.00 p/p. There are a few places that I go to where I can get a platter including meat, toast, eggs, grits or oatmeal for $5.00. So it just depends on what you are looking for and how much you want to eat. Breakfast is probably the cheapest meal of the day so for your total stay you won%26#39;t spend that much in the difference of the hotel cost if it were included.

Scallywag:

Did you check the hotels I previously recommended? I think many of them include breakfast. Dupont Circle is a long walk to the National Mall, but it%26#39;s possible if you love to walk. Otherwise, the metro is right there and very convenient. You can save your feet for walking around the main attractions.

Hotel rates change everywhere. Like airlines, the hotels are constantly adjusting rates to reflect expected occupancy. The good news is, UNLIKE airlines, if you see a lower rate just give the hotel a call or and they%26#39;ll adjust your reservation to the lower rate. Or you can do it on line, book the newer lower rate and then just cancel the older one.

Not sure how applicable this is going to be for April, that%26#39;s prime tourist time in Washington and rates are generally high.

IrishFan: I mentioned that because April is during the Cherry Blossom Parade and some hotels won%26#39;t let you change your reservation and actually during that time it would probably cost more. Not all places change their rates throughout the year. Most have standard prices for specific months and holidays and ';high season'; times of year. That%26#39;s been my experience.

Also, Dupont ';isn%26#39;t'; walking distance to the mall but it is an option for staying somewhere other than that area in DC. And metro is easily accessible and easy to navigate. He wants options for cheap rates w/breakfast.

For some of us, the Mall is indeed walking distance from Dupont Circle (I%26#39;ve even hoofed it from the Jurys Normandy which is about a 1/2 mile up from the Circle itself, in from 2100 Conn. Ave) -- and we love it :-)

As someone who travels fairly often to DC, I%26#39;d have to say the hotel rates fluctuate more wildly there than any other city in my experience -- even within the same week, and not just the typical difference between mid-week and weekend nights. More than once, I%26#39;ve tweaked my arrival/departure days (e.g., Monday vs. Wednesday, Fiday vs. Saturday) because of that.

scallywag, if you can get a good rate at the Omni Shoreham for that prime time of year, I don%26#39;t think you should hesitate to book it. It%26#39;s in a lovely, more residential neighbhorhood practically on top of the Woodley Park/National Zoo Metro station -- with quite a cluster of a variety of eateries at its virtual doorstep.

quikbook.com sometimes has availability %26amp; good deals offered by no other booking outfit. And kayak.com and sidestep. com are good mega-search engines for travel needs (not consolidators or booking agencies, their search results give you links for convenient, direct booking).

Mrs Maryland

We%26#39;re glad of your input, along with the others.

Perhaps you can advise a little further.

We have 12 days in the States rom march 31st to 11th April, into New York and out of Dulles.

It is our plan to spend a few days in NY where my husband and I have been before and are taking our son and daughter, 19 and 27 for the first time.

What would be your suggestions for the remaining 6 or 7 days?

We enjoy seeing new things and being part of the ambience of a new city. I believe military bands play regularly and we would greatly like to hear something ike that [son studies trumpet at university and mum and daughter are are both music teachers].

Is it worth going out of the main DC area to experience more local life, although we didn%26#39;t plan to have a car to stay stress-free.

We live in Scotland and are surrounded by beautiful hills etc so don%26#39;t need that type of thing.

Location of hotel is the most important thing so we have easy access to as much as possible using foot/metro.

Are we just as easy, and possibly less expensive to stay out Dupont or Omni Shoreham and come in by metro, which we could us for a wider area such a Arlington and Pentagon.

We are not interested in nightlife as such[bars/clubs] but would enjoy a bit of %26#39;bizz%26#39;to walk around in and find somewhere to eat.

Thank you in anticipation of a lot of advice!

To your last question, I responded to the other topic you posted.
