HELP! Renaissance Mayflower vs Renaissance Washington DC

A friend of mine is having a hard time deciding between two hotels. I told her I would ask all of you because you have given me good advice in the past. Her and her boyfriend are going (both in mid 20%26#39;s) and they are trying to decide between two marriot hotels. The Marriot Renaissance and the Renaissance Mayflower. She is concerned about the location of both in regard to their proximity to the major sites and the overall safety of the locations. She also wants to make sure neither one is a dump. Which one is better? Any help you could provide would be really appreciated. Thank you in advance!

The Mayflower is one of the nicer places to stay in town and a few blocks north of the White House and a few blocks south of Dupont Circle. A metro is a block away. The bar in the hotel is a local favorite for afterwork drinks.

The other one is near the new Convention Center and is a few blocks away from metro as well. I assume it is new since it is near the new convention center but not certain.

As far as location:

Both are about the same from most of the major sites via metro.

The Mayflower is probably in a better part of the city, but as long as you didn%26#39;t venture north of the one near the convention center you will be fine.

I would pick the convention center if you wanted to be around more things to do at night. I%26#39;d pick the Mayflower if you were going to spend more time in your room.

FYI - The Renaissance near the Convention Center is not new.

Thank you for all of your input..I am going to pass it all along to her and hopefully she can make her final decision.
