Greetings, everyone. My boyfriend and I are going to DC for a long weekend, November 2-5. This is our second trip in the last couple of years. Couldn%26#39;t pass up a $98 RT fare into National!
Anyway, cost, convenience and cleanliness top my list for lodging.
Here%26#39;s my short list, if anyone would be so kind as to comment:
ARLINGTON
Hilton Garden Inn Courthouse $119/nite (131 w/bfst) BOOKED
Residence Inns in either Pentagon City or Rossyln -$129/nite
Marriott Key Bridge - $139/nite (+20 nite for bfst special deal)
IN TOWN
Embassy Suites Convention Center $149.95/nite BOOKED
Residence Inn VT Ave $129/night
We stayed in the Dupont Circle area -Res Inn on P st. last time, but got a GREAT deal! It%26#39;s running $229/nite for that long weekend.
I think it would be fun to stay in DC itself, not across the river, but it%26#39;s not that critical, as long as transpo is nearby and good. My BF is legally blind so anything that makes getting from A to B simpler is better. And I understand that taxes are lower in VA which impacts the final bill.
And we prefer a room with a fridge at a minimum to keep drinks, etc. which is why my short list looks like it does.
Thanks mucho in advance for any input!!
Cheers!

DC Trip - Help with Hotel Decision
Hmm. This is a tough one. How much do you like to walk? And how important if being near nightlife? If you like to walk alot and have many evening options, then I%26#39;d probably go with the Embassy Suites Convention Center or the Marriott Key Bridge.
The ES is a good hike to the National Mall, but relatively close to lots of evening activities and dining option around the Penn Quarter/Chinatown.
The Marriott Key Bridge is an easy walk over the bridge to Georgetown with lots of dining and evening options.
If anything, I%26#39;d probaby rule out the Residence Inn VT Avenue, just because it%26#39;s not as convenient as some of the other places.
Hope this helps a little! Good luck with your decision.
DC Trip - Help with Hotel Decision
My picks in the order from best to worst (not necessarily worst but the bottom of the list)
-Embassy Suites Convention Center
-Residence Inn Pentagon City
-Hilton Garden Inn
-Marriott Key Bridge
-Residence Inn Vermont Avenue
The Embassy Suites is in a good location. They give free breakfast. Some restaurants nearby. Rooms are well-appointed.
The Residence Inn Pentagon City is comparable to the Embassy Suites but I still would pick the Embassy Suites..
Thanks Mopsy and MrsMaryland.... We dont mind walking, more of an issue at the end of the day!! What about metro access to get around town? HGI in Arlington indicates its just a couple of blocks...
Sights we want to pick up on this go-round:
Archives to see the Constitution (last time line was 3 hrs long!!)
Arlington Cemetary
Bureau of Printing and Engraving (BF wants to see where the money is made!!!)
More of the American Indian Museum
Botanical Gardens
Washington Monument ( closed when we were there last)
Air and Space Annex if we can figure out how to get out there. My BF wants to see the space shuttle that%26#39;s there. I%26#39;ve read that it%26#39;s there anyway.
Check out more neighborhoods like Adams Morgan
AddieBee:
Metro is wonderful. There are several metro stops throughout the city and surrounding suburbs. (www.wmata.com) for the exact map.
The mall area where all of your to do places are located on the Smithsonian Station (orange and blue line). Botanical Gardens may be a little further away.
For the Annex (Udvar Hazy Center) it%26#39;s located at Dulles Airport. There is a shuttle bus (5A) that runs there from L%26#39;Enfant Plaza Metro station which is also one of the metro stations near the mall area. This is the cheapest way of getting there. Metro doesn%26#39;t go out to Dulles Airport. Just using the bus could cost you half of a day but if he really wanted to see it, it should be ok.
Check out this site for other hotels that are in your price range. There are so many to choose from and so many locations.
AddieBee,
Not sure if this will help, but Marriott has a special that we%26#39;re using this weekend. You sign up for Marriott rewards (which is free), you take your Marriott #, put in your dates, check the corporate/promotion code box and type M11 in the field. I ran your dates, and Marriott Keybridge is $119/nt and the promotion gives you $100 towards a future 2 night stay at another Marriott within 6 months.
We%26#39;re using the promotion at the Marriott Crystal Gateway, but it didn%26#39;t show up for your dates. The Marriott Crystal City shows up for $109 and is connected to the CC Metro Stop.
Hope this helps!
One other special I found on travelzoo ...
starwoodhotels.com/westin/…
Westin Artlington Gateway is offering $99 night for weekends in Nov and Dec. It seems to apply only to Fri and Sat nights.
Thanks MrsM and LuvVegas.
I already am a Marriott Rewards member, so I would have to check and see if the promotion applies to me. I wouldn%26#39;t think so since it%26#39;s a ';come on'; to get people to sign up.
As for the Travelzoo special, I did look into that. The thursday night would cost around $300. So if you cost average, it is not the best deal available. I checked on Starwood%26#39;s site and on expedia. on Expedia, it averaged out to be around $185/nite.
We really liked the DC Metro. Very convenient, clean and efficient.
And I will keep checking as our travel time gets closer. More deals may pop up. I do believe Congress will be adjourned by then and it%26#39;s not a school holiday so we are hoping that the city won%26#39;t be too jammed.
AB
AB,
The promotion is for current Marriott rewards members. I was not a member, so I signed up and now I qualify. The promotion wasn%26#39;t for ';new'; members.
ok, let me try again, then
iluv - you are right. I booked a room at 119/nite with a 100 dollar bonus coupon.
THX!
