Is SW district safe

Hello

We have the opportunity to rent a condo in SW Washington DC it is walking distance to Fish Market and Ft McNair also Capitol and museums. We are well travelled and have and never had any problems walking in many many major cities. We like doing to rental thing all over the world rather than hotels and using the subways.

Is Washington DC reputation for bad districts well earned and is the SW this close in safe or are we being nieve. We will only be going to the main attractions no bars or clubs or out really late.

There are some lower-income housing projects interspersed among the condos in Southwest DC, but for the most part the area is very safe, especially around the Waterfront subway station, which sounds like the area you%26#39;re describing.

Washington%26#39;s reputation for bad districts is well-earned. This area isn%26#39;t so much a ';bad district'; as it is a residential one that%26#39;s lacking tourist attractions, and therefore doesn%26#39;t get much tourist traffic.

I wouldn%26#39;t do it. Some people don%26#39;t mind. So I guess it just depends on what you are willing to accept. One side of the street is nice the other isn%26#39;t. A little further away from the water, the worse it gets.

It really depends on where in SW it is. There are some parts around south capitol that are a little on the scary side, but it gets better closer to the Fish Market. As for it being within walking distance of everything mentioned, I would question that. It would be a long walk from that area to the Capitol and museums.

It%26#39;s safe, but boring. If it%26#39;s the Tiber Island, Carrollsburg, or River Park Condos, they%26#39;re pretty close to the Waterfront Metro station, and the others are closer to the Federal Center SW station. Haven%26#39;t come across any reports of a crime wave in SW - it seems tourists in NW DC and on the Mall itself are at an even greater danger! :-)
