My family and I are flying into IAD (Dulles) and need to get to Union Station (our hotel is two blocks from there). I saw that there is an express bus from IAD to L%26#39;Enfant Plaza, but I%26#39;m not sure where that is. Is it a long walk to Union Station, especially if we have bags (even though we%26#39;re young, I have rheumatoid arthritis and my brother is flying for 20 hours to get to DC)? Thanks!
IAD to Union Station
Depends on how light (or heavily) you%26#39;ve packed and how mobile you are. The walk is a good mile -- you can take the Metro, but you%26#39;ll have to lug your suitcases down an escalator into the station or drag them two blocks (and underneath a railroad overpass) to a hard-to-find elevator, travel down two levels to the Yellow/Green Line platform, travel north two stations and go up one level to the Red Line (make sure you%26#39;re on the Glenmont platform and taking a Glenmont or Silver Spring-bound train, and not a Shady Grove/Grosvenor one), travel two more stops to Union Station, and then roll your suitcases the remaining two blocks to the hotel. A lot of the time you%26#39;ll have to rely on the kindness of strangers to guide you to path to the correct platforms in the stations, as the elevators aren%26#39;t easily marked and the escalators are frequently out of service.
Otherwise, the easiest and best way is to catch a cab straight to the hotel for around $60, or share a shuttle ride for about half that.

About how much $$$ would it cost to just take a taxi from L%26#39;Enfant Plaza to Union Station?
That is a Zone 1 fare. For two people with bags would probably cost around $10-$12.
I would not walk from L%26#39;Enfant Plaza to Union Station. It%26#39;s just too far with family and luggage and not knowing where you are going.
-The 5A Bus is the Express Bus. It goes from IAD to L%26#39;Enfant Plaza. A few stops in between. Check out www.wmata.com for exact stops and time that it would take and the schedule.
-If you did take the 5A Bus as the previous post stated a cab from there would work. But if you didn%26#39;t feel like doing all of that transferring and moving luggage from one bus to a taxi, do the following
-If you weren%26#39;t trying to save money and just wanted the easiest and/or fastest way to get to Union Station, you could always do the cab (lots of them outside) it can be expensive around $60.00 or more depending on passengers and luggage
- or the Super Shuttle Service Van ';Blue Van';(www.supershuttle.com) for fee information. It%26#39;s like $29.00 p/p and $8.00 per additional person for the entire trip and I think they give discounts if you use them for round trip travel meaning leaving the hotel back to the airport, they will pick you up.
