Hiya all,
Following your advice in an earlier exchange I have taken on board what you%26#39;ve said. So I%26#39;m looking for a mid-range hotel in a safe area, but wanted to ask you about areas.
We%26#39;ll be travelling to/from Union station, so could stay in that area, but how about:
Georgetown or Dupont Circle.
Which of those areas would you recommend? It would need to be relatively easy to commute to/from the usual tourist areas, be safe but also have stuff to do in the evenings (bars/restaurants).
Any mid-range hotel recommendations in those areas?
Any tips appreciated.
Many thanks.
Hotel help for areasAs for proximity to a Metro station, Dupont Circle is the better of the two. However, it%26#39;s a doable walk to the Foggy Bottom Metro station from Georgetown plus the Circulator Bus goes through there, too. Both places have lots of good restaurants. Georgetown has lots of shopping--the Georgetown Park Mall is there. Jurys Washington is a well-liked 3-diamond property in Dupont Circle and reasonably priced, IMO. In Georgetown, other posters have liked the Georgetown Suites-Harbor Building, The Melrose, and the River Inn. I suggest that you look at the reviews posted here on these hotels. It will help you come to an informed decision.
Hotel help for areasBrilliant, thanks SueFee, that%26#39;s what I needed to get my booking!
Cheers.
Hi,
I faced the same problem last year, when I looked for a suitable reasonably priced hotel in a SAFE area, close to the attractions for my two week visit. Being a single woman traveler, I did a lot of research, and chose the River Inn. It was a perfect choice! Safe, safe area, in a residential area about a 3 minute walk from George W. University and its metro station. From there, in a few stops I was close to everything you might want to see. The hotel itself was wonderful, with helpful, nice staff (but a slightly overrated restaurant !). This hotel is in the same neighborhood as the Four Seasons, if that gives you an idea of how nice the area was!
The only drawback was that there were few restaurants or shops in the immediate area, but that was fine with me. If you walk in the direction of the four seasons, about a half mile, there is a whole street full of shops and restaurants.
I would go back to the same hotel and area in a heartbeat!
Hope this helps,
Sue
