Hello, We just got pricelined (is that a verb?) into The Madison at less than $100/night. Seems like a good deal, with easy walking to The Mall. Any suggestions on restaurants that are walking distance from the hotel? Also any thoughts on the Tourmobile for general orientation rather than hitting the Metro or walking? Thanks.

The Madison is smack dab in the middle of downtown Washington, plenty of places around. Do you have some specifics as to what type of food you%26#39;re looking for and/or budget?

If you%26#39;re looking for a nice meal, DC Coast at 14th and K Streets, NW would be my first suggestion. Corduroy at 12th %26amp; K also has very good food, but the restaurant itself isn%26#39;t quite as nice. Bombay Club at Connecticut Avenue and H Streets has good Indian food. Old Ebbitt Grill at 15th and F is a DC institution - the food is okay. Personally, I%26#39;m not a big fan of southern cooking, but if you want to try it, Georgia Brown%26#39;s gets good reviews (it%26#39;s also on the pricey side). There are also a couple of reasonably priced chains nearby with decent food - Legal Seafood and McCormick %26amp; Schmick%26#39;s.
Those are the places that come to mind within walking distance. If you want to take a cab or metro, I%26#39;d also recommend Zaytinya, Jaleo or Matchbox in the Penn Quarter/Chinatown neighborhood. Those are all fun places with what I%26#39;d consider good, reasonably priced food.
For further suggestions or restaurant reviews, check www.washingtonpost.com and check the City Guide or www.washingtonian.com and check the ';Best of'; or ';Cheap Eats'; for 2006. Bon appetit!
The Tourmobile could be used for general orientation. You get to see the monuments and see where everything is located. However, you don%26#39;t get to go into any of the museums. So you could do that after the tourmobile ride. Also the tourmobile can be expensive for some people. Especially if you have children. Check out their website to see if the price would be ok. If not, do it yourself with Metro and the walking. It isn%26#39;t all that bad. Just pace yourself and maybe split it into 2 days.
