Restaurant near Ford's Theatre

Hi,

I%26#39;ll be in D.C. the beginning of May and have tickets to see the musical ';The Civil War'; at Ford%26#39;s Theatre. I%26#39;ll be staying at the Grand Hyatt, which I know is just a couple of blocks away. Can someone please suggest a restaurant for dinner before the performance, maybe just down the street from the theatre, that isn%26#39;t too expensive? We%26#39;ll be walking. Someone mentioned Clydes and we%26#39;re not too keen on Hard Rock Cafe. Is it safe for 2 women to walk back to the hotel at night from Ford%26#39;s?

Also, is there a nice little place for breakfast around there as well?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Debbie

When I took the tour I saw a sign for a restaurant named Lincolns House Restaurant near the Peterson House,didn%26#39;t go in so I don%26#39;t know if it%26#39;s any good.

I wouldn%26#39;t worry too much about walking home at that time. The downtown area of DC is pretty safe these days as long as you take the same precautions as any other city. In terms of restaurants for dinner near Ford%26#39;s Theater, there are tons. Without knowing your food preferences, some of my favorites include:

Zaytinya, Matchbox, Jale0

I work very close to Lincoln%26#39;s House Restaurant and have heard nothing good. There are so many good options nearby, though. In addition to those previously mentioned, check out Chef Geoff%26#39;s and Ella%26#39;s Pizza. That neighborhood is safe at night, but as usual, keep your city senses up.

Unfortunately not a ton of great breakfast places in the immediate neighborhood. There are some chains (Cosi, Au Bon Pain) with decent options. Cafe du Parc does a nice breakfast, but it would be a bit fancier.

I hate to seem to be on a theme today, but once again I recommend Rosa Mexicano at 9th and F, NW. Only a few blocks from Fords, and is between fords and the Grand Hyatt.

Very good mexican, and not that tex/mex junk most restaurants pass as Mexican food.

If you have the mind to before visiting Ford Theater, you might want to head dine at the Chineese reataurant Wok N Roll, which was once Mary Surrat%26#39;s Boarding House.

It was kind of ';divey'; 20+ years ago when I used to have lunch there. It%26#39;s probably not bad if you just want a burger or something, but if you want a ';real dinner'; in the area it wouldn%26#39;t make my Top Ten list.
