Breakfast cafes etc close to 1919 Connecticut Ave. NW,

Hi,

I am looking to stay at the Hilton Washington at 1919 Connecticut Ave. NW, next month and to avoid their very expensive breakfasts, I wanted to ask if anyone knows of any local cafes etc?

I have a young son, aged 18 months, who will need his breakfast at 7am-7.30am each day, so they also need to open early.

Healthy options are a good choice if possible and as close as possible to this address.

If there are not too many nice options, where a family can sit in a cafe or in a bakery etc, then we will go ahead and book the hotel breakfast.

I need to know in advance as we are only there for 2 days and i don%26#39;t want to be walking aroudn trying to make a decision with a hungry 18-month old! You know what i mean.

Thanks in advance, jason

Hi,

Thank%26#39;s for the information but according to Cosi, their nearest place is 1.8 miles away at 1001 Pennsylvania Ave NW, unless you know different?

Kramerbooks is 0.4 miles away, which isn%26#39;t a disater but we will need somewhere quickly with the previously mentioned hungry child. I have heard great things about Kramerbooks before but did not know where they were but thinks for the tip.

The other site you gave is great and will be very useful for Washington plus our trip to New York.

If anyone is aware of litterally anything across the street (within a few minutes walk) that would be great.

Thanks, Jason

The store locator has a scroll down feature. I think the way it is set up is confusing.

This one is closest to you (and near the bottom of the scroll down menu).

I think there is also a drugstore near there with a pretty good food section so you can buy some snacks.

There are a couple of small places that cater to office workers near that hotel that would likely be open early and may have some breakfast available. But I don%26#39;t know of any real restaurants that close to the Hilton that serve breakfast. The Cosi at 20th %26amp; R Streets might be the best choice. It is about 3 blocks away.

The Hilton is not exactly a right-across-the-street kind of place--not a lot in the VERY immediate vicinity. That Cosi and Kramer Books are maybe a 5-8 minute (downhill) walk from the hotel.

That said, just a few doors down from the Hilton used to be this place. It has apparently closed very recently, but worth walking by to double check. It would be right on your way to Cosi/Kramer.

Just a block further down is this place:

But I would still pick Cosi.

The Cosi is 3/10 of a mile away.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much for the advice. It looks like Cosi is the best bet if we want breakfast outside. I will check the price of the hotel breakfast against Cosi and decide. I am sure that Cosi will be a much nicer experience.

Thanks again.

If you will be continuing out after breakfast, a nice place for Breakfast (My favorite Breakfast place in Dupont) is Trios Restaurant at 17th and Q. It%26#39;s about a four/five block walk from the Hotel, but it is only two blocks to the Dupong North metro stop from there.

You%26#39;d be walking 3 blocks a least to the Metro anyway, so what%26#39;s a few extra blocks to get something good to eat.

Trios is a local, non-touristy, place that is well loved by us locals. Great diner type food, although it is not technically a diner

In the nice weather then have a very large outdoor seating area on 17th Street. A very nice place to eat a good meal and watch the locals pass by and go about their business.

I will point out that the reviews for Trio%26#39;s on Yelp are not extraordinary, just in the interest of full disclosure.

What a bunch of Drama Queens kvetching about Trios. What empty, shallow lives they must lead to find complaint with such a convenient, friendly, and LOCAL establishment.

I have been eating there for over 20 years now. I%26#39;ve never had a bad meal. Sure, they aren%26#39;t 4 star, but they certainly don%26#39;t have 4 star prices.

They are just a friendly, local restaurant with a loyal local following.

I thought they might like to eat in a local restaurant, see how the locals live, rather than end up in a nationwide chain like Cosi%26#39;s or Starbucks. I%26#39;m pretty sure they probably have Cosi%26#39;s and Starbucks in their hometown.

But then, some people will insist on eating at McDonalds when visiting China.

What a waste.
