I%26#39;d be helpful to know what types of food you like and price range. There are tons of restaurants on U St., you just have to decide what you are looking for.

As the previous poster said, there are now tons of places to eat in the U Street corridor. Whenever we want to do a good dinner before a show at the 9:30 Club, we like Coppi%26#39;s. Coppi%26#39;s is a tiny (I emphasize tiny) Italian place, but is superb. If you want to go, you better make a reservation though.

You%26#39;ve raised a very valid question, but unfortunately I%26#39;ll be a bit vague and ask you to recommend any place that is moderately priced, casual / relaxed, and offers tasty food. Think of maybe 2 - 4 places that you%26#39;d consider going if you were in that area with several friends. Not very formal or quiet, but not a take-out joint with a corner table either. Hmm, my favorite places in the area are:

The Islander - great Caribbean food and rum punch

Marvin - soul food and Belgian

Tabaq - Mediteranean

Next Door - comfort food, owned by the Ben%26#39;s Chili Bowl folks

All have websites with menus if you google them.

I like Vinoteca (www.vinotecadc.com) at 11th and U. Went recently with a group of 5 and had some nice wines and good food. A bit further away near 14th and U, I like Bar Pilar for both food and drinks. As you probably know, most places in the area are pretty small and crowded, so definitely reserve ahead if you can.
