Family vacation (3-4 days) Husband, 20 yo daughter and I traveling to DC for culture, history trip. We%26#39;d prefer to stay in an apt or condo with kitchen. I went to the vrbo.com website. Lots of options, but I don%26#39;t know the neighborhoods. We want to economize. So cheap is good. But ';not safe'; is not good. Small is OK with roll out couch. We don%26#39;t want to rent a car. Metro and bus is good.

Any ideas?

Hi Susan, while I don%26#39;t totally disagree with EricH, I%26#39;ll make a suggestion to you, since you are brand new here at TripAdvisor.

The best thing to do is to make a list of possible vrbo houses that you are interested in that meet your requirements for price, size, etc. Be sure to note if they say they are near a Metro stop.

Once you have your list, hopefully not too long, then come back and ask about the neighbouhoods. I%26#39;d try to list the streets so the local will know to where you are referring.

The farther out from the city center, the cheaper rates will be. The Metro is quite efficient and a 30 minute ride is very easy.

Susan I would start by reading up on the different neighborhoods. Then choose several of the different places listed on vrbo and then come back here and ask for advice.
