Best way to get from LOC to Union Station

What is the best way to get from Library of the Congress at 4:30 on a Saturday to Union Station? If we were to take the Metro from Capitol South, it appears that we%26#39;d have to transfer twice, if I%26#39;m not mistaken. Should we plan to walk which we enjoy or take a cab?(Several guide books suggest that the area as one moves away from the Capitol itself can get dicey after hours but they don%26#39;t specify how far from the Capitol nor what they mean by after hours. If we walk, what route is advisable?

You can definitely walk. 4:30 on a Saturday is not a problem. It will be quieter than a weekday, but there will still be lots of people around and there are still plenty of Capitol police on the weekends. Someone else may be able to provide better directions, but from the map it looks like you can just walk straight down either First or Second Street, SE across E Capitol Street into NE and you%26#39;ll see Union Station on your left after about 4 (long) blocks.

An easy walk. Much of it down hill. Lots of Capitol security around. The only better way would be to hail a taxi. The area that gets dicey is when you walk east, and even then quite a few blocks from the Capitol. You will be walking north and a bit west.

Thank you both for the information. Looking forward to our weekend in DC.
