Embassy Suites Tysons Corner, what do you think??

We are arriving into Washington from Ireland on Fri 12th Jun, early afternoon... Plan to pick up hire car from the airport and stay at this hotel for 2 x nights... What do you think ? We want mainly to see the White House, Air %26amp; Space musume and the musume where Concorde is located..

Hubbie has a rate of USD75.00 incl breakfast and parking for the four of us... Seems to good to be true or safe !!..

For seeing the Concorde, which is in the Udvar-Hazy Museum next to Dulles Airport, you have a good choice. For touring DC, not so good. Traffic in the Tysons Corner area is a nightmare. And for rush hours and lunch time it is best to stay off the roads. Since you will be here on the weekend mostly, you may do OK.

tks Darrell6t, We hope to take the metro into the District area to do the %26#39;sights%26#39;...Hubbie just booked our 2 nights at the above price..As I said, good rate for 4 !... Do you know how long it will take to tour the air musume where concord is??

Like most museums, the time will entirely depend on your level of interest. And whether you decide to watch one of the IMAX films they show. Some people would be bored in an hour. Others could spend all day. Look at their web site and you might get a better idea for yourselves. http://www.nasm.si.edu/UdvarHazy/

There is no Metro near Tyson%26#39;s. You would have to drive to a station like West Falls Church and then take the train in. To park you%26#39;ll need a Metro fare card, which I don%26#39;t think you can order from outside the U.S. Maybe someone else on this board has tried.

You might ask the hotel if they offer a shuttle to the Metro station. With the money you saved on the hotel, you might also consider taking a taxi to a Metro station.

Bear in mind that there is a parking fee at the Air and Space annex where they have the Concord--I think it%26#39;s about $20 per car. And you can%26#39;t see inside th Concord itself, just the outside from underneath. Still interesting, but not as much as if you could actually tour it.

This Embassy Suites does provide a free shuttle for its guests to Metro. So no need to drive to the Metro station. IMO, $75/night with a full free breakfast is a good deal. However, it%26#39;s a trade off. You save money but have to spend some time getting into DC. So...it%26#39;s up to you to decide which is more important to you---getting a good deal on the hotel or spending more to stay in the District...

I believe it is still only $12 per car at the Udvar-Hazy Museum. No entrance fee.

Parking at Metro stations is still free on weekends and holidays. On workdays many of the parking lots fill up quite early. And you will need a SmarTrip card to pay for parking. That costs $5 with no value. Enough money to pay for parking would have to be added.

It%26#39;s actually a very safe area. The reason for the cheap weekend rate is that, like the other hotels in Tysons Corner, this hotel serves business travelers who have business in the immediate vicinity. On the weekends, the hotel basically empties out. I can understand the lure of the low rates, and the hotel itself is a very good one (with an excellent buffet breakfast), but I have to say that I find this area truly soulless and depressing - sterile office parks, strip malls, and gridlocked traffic (sometimes on weekends as well as weekdays). Also, the drive to the Metro station is not necessarily a quick one even on weekends. Staying here would definitely be a trade-off, as SueFee said.

Looking at where you want to go in two days the location is perfect. You are half way in between the two places and you are close to a major shopping area. That price is VERY good. Breakfast alone for 4 would cost you half that much and the hotel is very nice. Obviously that is a weekend rate so I wouldn%26#39;t worry about traffic. It is a short ride from the hotel to the metro.

Udvar-Hazy parking costs are going up to $15. Free after 4:00. Not sure when this price hike will be implemented.

You will be able to do whatever you want with a rental car at your disposal, just be aware that Tysons Corner is a very congested area, but being that it will be the weekend, that will be in your favor.

If you park at Metro station, you WILL need a SmarTrip card to pay for parking if it is charged. I am not up on when they make you pay-weekends vs. weekdays. My understanding is that these cards are now sold in CVS Pharmacy (chemist) stores pre-loaded with $5 in fare for $10. The other $5 covers the cost of the card.

Thanks for all the informative replies !....Hotel offers a shuttle service to nearest Metro..They also have a happy hour which Mum %26amp; Dad are looking forward to !..We have booked our suite for USD75 per night incl parking %26amp; brekkie...Our kids are 10yrs (almost 11yrs) and they basically just want to %26#39;see%26#39; the White House and other musumes as I previously adv...
