Driving from DC - Baltimore - Philly - have questions.

Hi,

I am leaving this Friday, March 20th to Washington DC. We are arriving at Dulles at 3:15pm and plan to rent a car and drive directly to Baltimore - check into hotel then dinner.

Saturday - It will be our first time in Baltimore so we are planning on visiting the aquarium and the Harbor.

Sunday check out of hotel and drive to Philadelphia- Spend day there- See some sights.

Monday Am – Business meeting with associate late afternoon drive back to Washington DC

Tuesday – sightseeing in DC (we’ve been here several times already so am familiar with sights to see ).

Wednesday – Friday – Business meetings

Friday – return to Los Angeles

My questions:

How is the weather there now? I plant to make this drive as long it is now snowing or icy on the roads.

Is this an easy or difficult drive? Rand McNally website is telling me that it is 1.5 hours from DC to Baltimore and 2 hours from Baltimore to Philly. Is this correct?

Does this trip sound too rushed to you?

I am looking at the Hilton Homewood Suites in Baltimore and not sure about where to stay in Philly.

I would appreciate any advice or recomendations on sights to see, etc...

My other option is just to stay in DC and have my associate take a train from Philly to DC but since I am traveling with my husband and 11 year old son who is celebrating his 11th birthday while on the trip I thought it may be a fun road trip.

It has been overcast and chilly for a few days. This has no bearing on next week, though, so you will have to check the weather forecast. Weather changes quickly and often during March in the Northeast.

1.5 hours maybe from Dulles to Baltimore, not from DC to Baltimore. Dulles is 20 miles or so west of DC. I would say 2 hours to Philly from Baltimore is about right with no traffic.

The drive from Dulles to Baltimore at the height of a Friday rush hour could be a enough to put you off driving for the rest of your life, but since you are from LA, you may have seen worse.

oh oh, I didn%26#39;t think of that! That would put me right in the middle of Friday rush hour! Maybe I should change that and leave on Saturday morning...

Maybe you could fly into BWI without much of a fare or layover difference?

No, I can%26#39;t do that but now I am thinking of driving straight to Philly on a Saturday morning ... better?

Dulles-Philly will be an easy 3-hour drive on a Saturday morning. Much better idea IMHO.

Dulles-Baltimore could approach that same amount of drive time leaving the airport around 4:00 (after getting settled with luggage and rental) on Friday with mostly stop-and-go traffic.
