Safe hotel

We are planning a mother/daughter trip in August 09. I am thinking of booking the Four Points by SHeraton at 1201 K St. NW, Washington DC. I am hoping all you knowledgable people can tell me if this is a good place to stay. I do not want to ruin our vacation by making a bad hotel choice. I want to feel safe walking to back to the hotel after dinner.

Safe hotel

Have you read the reviews here on Tripadvisor? Just enter the name of the place in the ';search'; box in the upper left of the page...

It%26#39;s in an area of downtown Washington that is pretty quiet at night, or at least not as lively as Dupont Circle or Penn Quarter where a lot of visitors tend to stay. So you%26#39;re likely to see fewer people on the streets at night. Which doesn%26#39;t necessarily make it ';not safe';, it just makes it empty.

Of course you can always take a taxi back after dinner.

Do you have any suggestions in those two areas for a decent (not too expensive) hotel? I have read the reviews for the Sheraton and they were pretty good but nothing was mentioned about the area. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

Rates in August are usually fairly cheap, as Congress goes on recess, the President usually goes...somewhere, and the town empties out with lots of locals on vacation.

So...what does ';not too expensive'; mean to you, and what dates are you traveling?

You can look at third party sites like expedia.com or hotels.com to get a sense of what%26#39;s out there in your range, or check the major chain sites like Hilton and Marriott.

I have several choices with trying to find one in those two areas. 1. Hotel Lombardy, 2019 Penn Ave. 2. Club Quarter, 839 17th St. 3. State Plaza, 2117 E St. 4. Washington Marriott, 1221 22nd St. 5. Holiday Inn Washington-Central/White House, 1501 Rhode Island Ave. 6. Wahington Plaza, Thomas Cir.

Any one of these jump out at you? Any one in a more convenient location that another? Thanks!

We are staying across the street from the Washington Marriott at Embassy Suites starting tomorrow. It is my understanding both from a friend who is fairly familiar with DC and from a number of very helpful individuals on TA that it is a nice area, walking distance from two different Metro stations, convenient to Georgetown, restaurants and shops.

I would just keep your original reservation if I were you. The other poster said the area was not as lively as Dupont or Penn Quarter, but it%26#39;s still absolutely fine. There are restaurants nearby and you%26#39;re near metro. Those are important factors, IMO. The area is very safe - you can even walk to the Penn Quarter for dinner if you want! So don%26#39;t worry about your choice.

Thank you for all your help!!!!!!
