I apologize if this question has been answered elsewhere...
What is the best way to handle paying for the Metro if we will be staying in Alexandria and going to DC once each day for 3 or 4 days? (Sat., Sun., Mon., and maybe Tues.)
Thanks!
Metro question
It depends--are you planning to do a lot of Metro hopping while you%26#39;re in DC, or are you planning to just take the Metro into DC and stay in one place?
There are daily and weekly passes available, which might be worthwhile if you%26#39;re planning to go to numerous places within DC. If you%26#39;re just planning to go to Alexandria to one stop, you might want to consider just getting a SmarTrip card loaded with enough fare to get you back and forth for the 3 or 4 days you%26#39;re going to be there.
I personally love the SmarTrip card. They%26#39;re like a debit card that you can add value to, but they do cost around $5. If you%26#39;re planning to drive to a station and park, you%26#39;ll need one to get out of the Metro parking lot.
Here%26#39;s the breakdown of farecard and SmarTrip options: www.wmata.com/fares/purchase/passes.cfm
Have fun in DC!
Metro question
We recently got back from our trip there, and we bought the 7 day Fastpass card for $39 each. We stayed out in Rockville and ended up using the Metro far more than we thought we would for five days so it worked out very well.
