4th of July

My two kids (22 and 21) and I will be coming to DC for 5 days including the fourth. We want to watch the fireworks from the mall and we know that there might be another person or two around. :) Is it walkable from the mall to our hotel (Hyatt Arlington) after the fireworks? I went to hop/stop and it said it was about 2 miles, but it looked like a very strange route. The physical part of the walk is not a concern, but since the hotel is across the river, I was just wondering if it is feasible. We would like to avoid the Metro after the fireworks.

It would be a strange route, and maybe even more than 2 miles, but it is technically walkable. And the cars will all be stopped cold for a couple of hours, so you won%26#39;t have that danger to contend with. Alternatively, you might ask if your hotel is planning anything. I remember hearing that some places in that part of Arlington have had rooftop viewing parties in the past--not sure about the Hyatt but it doesn%26#39;t hurt to ask (a little closer to the event maybe; their events staff is probably focused on cherry blossoms now).

If the Hyatt is the one on Wilson Blvd., it will be a long walk. The only bridges that have sidewalks are Key Bridge and Memorial Bridge. Traffic is not always stopped on the other bridges. I would suggest taking the metro down to the mall during the day and see the sites, then metro back to Arlington Cemetery Station before 7PM and watch the fireworks at 9PM from the VA side of the Potomac.
