Looking for a dayhike outside the DC area. Mother/Daughter day (25 and 53) She runs (DC), I%26#39;m a walker (Florida) and we%26#39;re both have decent fitness level.
Any ideas?
I%26#39;d be happy to drive Saturday morning, hike, stay in motel, continue to hike next day on different trail and then return to city.

Do some google searches on Old Rag and Whiteoak Canyon. These are great hikes, with Old Rag being the harder of the two. I%26#39;ve only done Whiteoak Canyon once, and I think we did an easier portion of it, as it was mostly just walking with only moderate climbs. They are very near each other.
I have done the full Old Rag loop (about 8 miles from the base) several times, and each time, I was not up for hiking the next day! The first part is mostly walking up a trail, then you get to a long rock scramble, but only 1 part is very difficult. I usually pushed my girlfriend up and then had to scramble/claw/fight my way up it. It is a climb over a large rock in the middle of a narrow passageway, and there really isn%26#39;t anything good to grab onto. There is often a traffic jam here, as most hikers are slow to figure out a way through this part.
Old Rag is a beautiful hike that affords great views from the top of the mountain. Bring plenty of water and some food/snacks. You can probably do the loop in 4 hrs, with a few stops for sight seeing.
It is about 2 hrs from DC.

Quite the visual!! good to know.
Yes, those are good places I would recommend.
Also, google the websites of the Capital Hiking Club, the Wanderbirds Hiking Club, and the Center Hiking Club.
There is also a group called ';Washington Women Outdoors'; and they have a website.
WE enjoyed Great Falls Park. It was unique to see for us, and you can keep walking/hiking on the towpath or branch off on the boardwalk. I am hoping that there are some kayakers (sp?) attempting some runs on the river, but that might be too early in the season????
How long a drive are you willing to make, one way?
