From what I have heard, it is still a work in progress. That being said, you can always take the water taxi over to Old Town Alexandria if National Harbor doesn%26#39;t have what you need. $16/person round trip.
Gaylord National harbor
You can find reviews / criticisms from guests who have stayed at the Gaylord Hotel here on this site.
The Gaylord hotel and the National Harbor complex are only one year old, and the complex is not finished yet - construction is continuing. I grew up and lived for many years in the immediate neighborhood ';Oxon Hill'; which is not interesting - there is little to do there. You should ride the BOAT which goes often from Gaylord to ';Old Town Alexandria'; because there are many amusements, dining, and shopping in Old Town, a beautiful historic quarter.
I%26#39;m afraid you seriously underestimate Oxen Hill. It is a cesspit from which a tourist may not extricate himself alive. National Harbor may be okay, but the area in which it is build is seriously undesirable. Be careful.
Nothing wrong with the National Harbor.
So what if it%26#39;s in Oxon Hill. It isn%26#39;t like it%26#39;s around anything. If you aren%26#39;t driving you will be fine.
Ignore Dev and read the reviews. If you are using it as a base for a sightseeing trip to DC, it%26#39;s not convenient--you%26#39;ll need to take a bus to the southern end of the Green Line, then travel into town. If you%26#39;re there for a convention, be prepared for fairly high prices and a work in progress. I haven%26#39;t been yet, but friends who have said prices are high, parking isn%26#39;t cheap, and they%26#39;re not going back until it%26#39;s finished. (Basically, the complaint was that you pay ';downtown DC prices'; for a place that%26#39;s way out of town. You may not find it ';way out of town'; but those of us who live inside the beltway think we%26#39;re traveling to the end of the earth when we go outside it.)
I spent a weekend at the Gaylord National Harbor and I found the hotel to be absoultely beautiful.I dined at the Old Hickory Steakhouse which was delightful and at night I went to the club on the roof top called POSE; all which is located within the Gaylord Hotel. I really enjoyed the experience. There are some areas that are still under construction but that didn%26#39;t distract my stay; and although it is located in Oxon Hill, you wouldn%26#39;t know it...I don%26#39;t care where you go you should always be cautious, its not like the National Harbor is the Oxon Hill resident area; it has its ';own'; location right on the Potomac; such an awesome view at night. I%26#39;m going back this weekend, a great get-a-way place to go whether is business or pleasure!!!
The wife and I stayed there last July and they had a free shuttle bus to Old Town Alexandria
