I am surprising a fellow English teacher and his wife by sending them to Washington, DC, to the Folger to see Aracadia--his favorite play of all time! I have no clue how to organize this and need advice. I have VERY limited funds. He needs to fly from Minneapolis to Washington (which airport?), stay near the Folger (cheap hotels?), and I would like to skip renting a car if possible. What would you recommend? What else is a must-see in so short a time?
Thanks!
need advice on trip to Folger June 12-14Southwest flies into BWI and you can take a train to Union Station which is near the Folger. I would say that BWI might have the cheapest flights. The downtown airport is National (DCA) so give that a look as well. Most websites will let you search all three area airports with the airport code WAS - but Southwest doesn%26#39;t participate.
As for hotels, no idea about capital hill. You might try Priceline. It is the high season so you might find a better deal in Crystal City, Va - just a few metro stops south of the city. The cheapest place I know of is a no-frills, very basic, not very pretty motel called the Americana. Look it up on this site.
If you are in DC or Va, the metro can get you most anywhere so a car can be a liability. Taxis are plentiful as well.
Good luck, what a nice surprise.
Here is a link to day of half price theater tickets if your friend wants to take in another show.
