Touring the Zoo between the 6:00 am and 10:00 am time period

Hello

I have never been to the National Zoo. Our afternoons are pretty packed. I wanted to try to do the zoo early in the day. I know the grounds are open from 6:00 am onwards. Until the ';houses'; open at 10:00 am, will there be a lot to see? I am assuming that even when the ';houses'; aren%26#39;t open the animals can travel in their outdoor habitats if they choose? Am I totally wrong?

Thanks in advance for the help!

The earlier the better. The animals make a lot of noise when they first get up and get moving around their areas. You won%26#39;t see or hear any of this by mid-morning. Also, if you%26#39;re coming in the hot weather, early morning is the ONLY time when you%26#39;ll see anything moving much (they%26#39;re not stupid).

I agree - early morning is a great time to see the animals active in their outdoor habitats. It%26#39;s also very pleasant to wander the grounds with few other visitors around.

I live right next to the zoo, and can tell you that the earlier the better. Lots of active, noisy animals (I can hear the gibbons from my apartment), and not a ton of kids milling around.

At 10am (I *believe,* not 100% positive on the exact time), the organutans have access to the ';O-line,'; where they can climb on wires over zoogoers heads between buildings. Definitely something cool to check out.
