Sight-seeing at night

My DH would like to show our kids (7%26amp;10) DC at night. (He said it is a sight to behold) BUT being a mom I worry that it is not very safe. So is it safe to take them to the Mall area and let them get out and walk? Should we stick to the tourmobile for the 3 hour twighlight ride, instead?

Thanks!!!

Sight-seeing at night

Hello there,We took the 3-4 hr. twilight tour and felt perfectly safe in the areas that we toured. Our guide let us off at the entrance to the monuments and gave us an approx. time to be back. There were alot of people in those areas and we saw security at most.Once again you have to be aware of your surroundings, but that is wise to do anywhere. We were a group of females and thouroghly enjoyed the tour.It is a beautiful site at night.

Sight-seeing at night

It is safe. If you and your DH are with them it is plenty safe.

The night tour on the tourmobile can be costly if you don%26#39;t want to spend a lot of money. But what you get to see can be worth if for some that%26#39;s the best time to see the monuments is when the lights come on.

The area where these monuments are, are pretty much only tourist after dark. There were a few instances when a few teenagers decided to go out and see how many people they could rob but they were arrested and charged and are now in jail. And since then there hasn%26#39;t been any incidents of that type of crime on the mall. No one has gotten shot or beat up or anything just some punk kids trying to steal some money during the summer with nothing better to do.

There is a lot of walking in between the monuments. So the bus would be helpful if you didn%26#39;t want to walk. I would actually prefer the tourmobile bus not just because of crime but there is too much walking.

My sister brought her husband and 3 boys (1.5, 5, 7) to visit me this summer and I took them to the monuments at night and we had a great time. We got to FDR at about 9:30, then walked over to Jefferson, and it was about 11 before we got back to the car. There are tons of people around. The robberies over the summer were so shocking because they are completely unprecedented. The mall is very safe. FDR is definitely at its best at night! (Though i recommend a daytime visit too so you can read all the inscriptions. It%26#39;s my favorite monument, can you tell?)
