DC Coast or Ceiba

I have reservations at both DC Coast and Ceiba... which would you pick?

DC Coast or Ceiba

They are both about the same.

-Ceiba is more modern it%26#39;s a newer restaurant and food is good.

-DC Coast is more traditional but good and the atmosphere may be a little more ';stuffy'; than Ceiba

If it is for you and a date I would go with Ceiba. If it%26#39;s for you and a gathering of folks, then DC Coast.

DC Coast or Ceiba

I agree with MrsMaryland - the food and atmosphere at Ceiba are a little more adventurous (for lack of a better word). DC Coast, though leaning toward more traditional, is consistenly good and has a very nice dining room. Both are good choices. Even with a date, if you can sit upstairs at DC Coast, it%26#39;s a little more cozy. Bon appetit!

Long time lurker, first time poster. As a lifelong resident of DC I feel that I may have some good opinions to offer. In regards to DC Coast v. Ceiba I have to disagree with Mopsydog and would probably choose DC Coast over Ceiba. It sounds as though you havent been to either restaurant, because DC Coast definitely has more of a date atmosphere. I especially like the upstairs, it is definitely a little more quiet. Both are good choices however, in fact the pastry chef has appeared on the Today show a few times, so dont skip dessert....

DonnyinDC:

I%26#39;ve been to both restaurants several times. People just have different opinions on what they expect on a date I guess :)

Anyway, I thik hambrgrj9 is coming with a business group so that point is kind of moot.

PS:

Donny - I think you were confusing what I said with what MrsMaryland said - I also said that the upstairs at DC Coast is cozy for a date.

Mopsydog-

I apologize, I was getting the posts confused. BTW, I noticed that you comment on many of the restaurants in DC, and for the most part I like your suggestions. How do feel about this particular ';chain'; of restaurants (Ten Penh, DC Coast, Ceiba, and Acadiana).? i think they offer good value for the money, and for the most part the food is tasty. Do you have a favorite? Just one DC residents opinion to another.

I like TenPenh best, DC Coast next, Ceiba, Acadiana. I%26#39;m not a big fan of southern food, so I didn%26#39;t love Acadiana. The food was good, but I didn%26#39;t look at the menu and go ';wow! everything looks great!'; but that%26#39;s just not my favorite style of food. I do think it%26#39;s a very good restaurant group with good, well-priced food.

Yes! i couldnt agree with you more, Ten penh is my favorite also. i really love the desserts there, they have these amazing warm doughnuts, have you had them? I think the pastry chef I previously mentioned, Daniel?, is responsible for those. I highly recommend them. Glad to see we are on the same page.

David Guas is the executive pastry chef for the restaurant group called Passion Foods. He doesn%26#39;t do the day-to-day work there, but I believe he oversees all the restaurants.
