inexpensive thanksgiving meal?

Suggestions for a place that doesn%26#39;t cost a lot (all the places I%26#39;ve looked were fancy and cost a lot) for a thanksgiving meal (can be lunch if dinner cost more).

Doesn%26#39;t have to be really frilly/fancy, just plenty of good yummy thanksgiving food.

inexpensive thanksgiving meal?

Oh, and has to be within walking distance of a metro station.

inexpensive thanksgiving meal?

Well depending on what you think is a lot of money.

There will be places that will have a Thanksgiving dinner, however since it will be a set menu they will make the price at about $30-$50 per person.

-Vidalia (Dupont Circle)- usually they are about $30.00 p/p including 4 course meal. With basic Thanksgiving food

-Georgia Browns (Faragut North) has had them in the past. Southern food. It%26#39;s about $35.00 p/p for the entire meal.

Some of the hotel restaurants will probably have something, but they may be more expensive.

Are these unlimited portions?

No, neither Vidalia nor Georgia Brown%26#39;s serve buffet Thanksgiving meals, although I seem to remember reading last year (in the Washington Post newspaper, I think) that the side dishes are set out buffet-style. And because many people prefer to have their Thanksgiving dinner earlier in the day, this is a time when there won%26#39;t be any difference in pricies between lunch and dinner.

I%26#39;m thinking The Tombs -- the much more casual, less expensive ';sister'; of the 1789 restaurant -- would be a good choice for you. It%26#39;s an attractive, but definitely not fancy, place with food and prices which appeal to the Georgetown University students %26amp; faculty who are frequent customers there. I don%26#39;t know if it will be open for Thanksgiving, but you could call or e-mail them via the contact information given here -- and see their usual menus too:

Also, why don%26#39;t you post back after you%26#39;ve made your hotel reservation? Once you know where you%26#39;ll be staying, perhaps we could offer a suggestion for someplace close to your hotel.

sheisaeval,

Food for thought: Thanksgiving is a unique holiday in that it involves a traditional family meal AND knows no boundaries of religion. So unlike Christmas or Easter, every employee working on Thanksgiving is likely being removed from his/her own family holiday celebration to help serve you.

That%26#39;s one of the reasons why if a full-service restaurant is open on Thanksgiving, dinner will be at a premium price. Your cost reflects the management passing through nice bonuses which need to be paid to entice employees to work the holiday.

If you don%26#39;t feel like doing the cooking yourself and $30 pp at a restaurant is too steep for your budget--I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;re going to find anything substantially less than that--I%26#39;d suggest bringing in one of the pre-made dinner package deals offered by the larger grocery stores. We had Wegmans dinner package last year and it was incredible.

Incidentally, my suggestion about bringing in assumes you%26#39;re a local (based on your Washington, D.C. residence ID) and have access to either your kitchen or someone else%26#39;s in order to heat up the dinner.

yeah but im only in dc this semester and i only have rented a basement with a minikitchen not a full

If you%26#39;re a student, I imagine your college/university will be letting you know about the possibility of having T-day dinner in a local home. At least, it%26#39;s certainly not uncommon for away-from-home students %26amp; visiting faculty members to be hosted on this day. So ask, e.g., your advisor or the dean of student llife before you make a reservation.

And if you%26#39;re here from another country, you could also ask your embassy if they match up people such as yourself with hosts.

The meals that the grocery stores offer would still work even if you didn%26#39;t have a full kitchen. The food is already prepared, you just heat it up. You could heat it in the microwave and serve the turkey room temperature.

The following all offer these prepared meals ranging in price.

-Safeway

-Giant

-Food Lion

-Whole Foods

-Shoppers (some of them I think)
