Hotel Harrington

Well, I am wondering if anyone out there has information on the Hotel Harrington. I understand it is family owned, and lots of student groups stay there. I also understand it does not have alot of ambience? We are considering it due to its location and low price--maybe we can afford some great dinners, etc., if we give up a great room for a bed and four walls--comments?

Hotel Harrington

If you haven%26#39;t already, read the reviews of it that are posted here under ';hotels'; and see what you think. Personally, I wouldn%26#39;t stay there or recommend it to others. One thing I find troubling about it is that they don%26#39;t use key cards for the room doors--still using regular keys, which is bad from a security point of view.

If your quest for accommodations is continuing, do not be tempted by the Windsor Park Hotel. Out of curiosity, I stuck my head in there the last time I was in DC (June), and it was *bleak* and depressing.

Don%26#39;t know when you%26#39;re thinking of coming, but Expedia has been showing some very attractive prices for a number of hotels for dates near-in-time. There%26#39;s virtually nothing posted on TravelZoo right now, but could be worth your while to check back there periodically (the new specials are typically announced there on Tuesday-Wednesday). And Quikbook.com sometimes has availability %26amp; good pricing no one else has

Would you consider a room in a B%26amp;B or guesthouse? If so, check this central reservations service:

You might also find the inexpensive Adams Inn suitable; I%26#39;d consider it a much better alternative than the Harrington:

Reviews for many of these non-hotel options can be found at the B%26amp;B/Inns tab on the Hotel section here at TA%26#39;s DC home page:

Now I%26#39;m nervous! I booked 4 nights in October for the Harrington, based on my guide book recommendations, price and location...There seems to be very mixed feelings on the hotel...I didn%26#39;t find anything else with this kind of location for the money...Is it really that bad?

Well---I wouldn%26#39;t stay there but that%26#39;s me--it%26#39;s up to you. Have you considered trying to bid for a room using one of the discount websites? If you only need a room with one bed in it, it is a good option. Check out--betterbidding.com--for help in using the bidding process.

Well, I would say the Harrington definitely rates above the Windsor Park! But I think the differences in opinions/decision making is often a matter of personal preferences/touring style.

For example, a location close to the Mall and other tourist sites isn%26#39;t a factor for me: DC is well-served by a good public transportation system, and I love to walk. What is more important to me is being in an area which is more of a true ';neighborhood'; and offers a variety of shops, restaurants and ';night life';... and by that, I myself mean an evening scene where people are out %26amp; about, where I feel comfortable walking around. So, that%26#39;s why I like the Dupont/Kalorama and Woodley Park neighborhoods and undoubtedly that%26#39;s why others like staying in Georgetown.

I recommended the Adams Inn to Designtoy (and have suggested it in the past here to others on a budget, especially those who appeared to be solo travelers), not because it offers greater room security than the Harrington -- it doesn%26#39;t have electronic door locks either (or at least it didn%26#39;t when I stayed there some time back)., nor are its furnishings any more upscale; they%26#39;re decidedly not. But because it%26#39;s like a glorified hostel, I think its atmosphere -- more convivial than the typical hotel -- can be fun for those traveling alone. Plus, it%26#39;s cheaper than the Harrington, and it%26#39;s close to the Adams Morgan ';scene'; which younger people, in particular, find appealing... and if your mobility/stamina aren%26#39;t limited, you can easily walk to the Woodley Park or Dupont Circle areas. But that%26#39;s my perspective, which you may not share.

It%26#39;s been my experience that hotel rates in DC fluctuate wildly, even within the same week. So, you shouldn%26#39;t be guided only by the average prices shown here at TA... for example, there were (as of this weekend) a variety of fine establishments showing availability thru the end of month at low prices -- cheaper the Harrington%26#39;s designated average -- you won%26#39;t see for bookiings in late September. If the Harrington is the best in the District you can afford for the dates you%26#39;ll be here, I wouldn%26#39;t stew over it; you%26#39;ll probably find it at least OK :-)

Stayed there on 2 occasions for a conference and was good location.

Old hotel But lots of school groups were there in June when I was there in 2004.

About 4 blocks to White House.

You can get the Metro abt 4 blocks on G Street. Harrington is on E Street.

Has a cafeteria style we used for breakfast . not great food. and another with food and drinks for adults. Lots of collegate types seemed to me. young adults. economical. About 10 blocks to Capital and not far to Mall.

hi all,

We found walls with water damage, mold, mildew, etc. Doors that don%26#39;t close properly, heating system broken and uncontrollable, dirty, smelly, utility cables tacked up running along hallway walls, noisy. Would not stay there again if it were the last hotel on Earth.

The only positive thing I can say is it%26#39;s in a perfect location.
