My wife and I are wanting a romantic hotel (not a B%26amp;B) near the typical touristy DC sights that offers a GOOD, trustworthy tour of DC with pick up right there at the hotel, or at least walking distance (if its safe) to the pick up location for the tour. You know, just a really nice, romantic hotel with friendly staff, a bar and the perfect hotel room for our stay in DC. It is our 10th anniversary and our Vegas plans fell through, but we still want to travel. Any recommendations on a romantic hotel that is not a B%26amp;B and near the Capital and other sights? I have read a lot about a trolley tour on here and would love to know who offers it and what hotel I have to stay at to be picked up for it. Your thoughts please!
Thank you so much everyone!

The tours don%26#39;t pick you up at the hotels. They pick up at central locations in DC (Union Station and downtown somewhere). If you don%26#39;t mind spending the cash there are personal tours where you could hire someone to take you on a tour.
It would help if you told us your budget for the room p/night. Most romantic hotels in DC tend to be more ';luxury'; hotels and might be a little expensive. Also, smaller hotels usually always have better service as there aren%26#39;t many customers to deal with.
I suggest doing the moonlight tour on the tourmobile bus. This is nice and romantic. And during the day you can just go and walk around and go into the museums.
-There is so much walking in between the museums, monuments, and other attractions, most people want to use metro to cut down on the walking.
-The downtown area near attractions and most neighborhoods are completely safe. The areas that aren%26#39;t safe, you probably wouldn%26#39;t find yourself going in that area anyway there really isn%26#39;t much to do or see out there. So don%26#39;t worry about that.
Once you have a budget on the room, it will be easier.

If you want to be near the tour pick-up at Union Station and near the main tourist attractions, consider the Hotel George. It%26#39;s a contemporary boutique hotel, though, so it%26#39;s really a matter of personal taste whether you think it%26#39;s romantic.
Other romantic hotels to consider that are well-located, but perhaps don%26#39;t meet all your criteria -
The Hay Adams
The Fairmount
The Willard
The Mayflower
The Jefferson
Hope this helps get you started, but if these are out of your price range be sure to post again for further suggstions.
Thank you for the suggestions! Really, I was looking to spend about 250 a night, perhaps more if the hotel has something really special to offer. Since the tours usually run from Union Station, what is a romantic hotel around that budget that is close to Union Station, like walking distance?
Also, how is The Melrose in relation to distance from Union Station? The price seems reasonable and the reviews on here seem favorable. Is it a place I should consider?
OK well, after reading further, the Melrose may not be such a good place to stay. The Hay Adams would be my first pick, but the room and airfare alone is 3 thousand. That is not including spending money, tours, etc. I wish there was a way to sort the hotels on here by ';romance level';, it may make this a little easier. Anyway, looking forward to your continued input everyone, like I said earlier budget is going to have to be in the 250-300ish range per night. Thanks!
I%26#39;ll encourage you to not rulee out the Melrose: its decor is what I think you have in mind (not contemporary or cookie-cutter bland), and it%26#39;s far more affordable than the Hay Adams, etc. Plus, if you%26#39;ll be coming before the end of the year, you can get a 1-bedroom suite for just $50/night more than their standard (a/k/a/ deluxe) room!

True, the reviews aren%26#39;t uniformly sparkling, but recent ones compare favorably to many other establishments -- the longest negative one concerns a business conference which isn%26#39;t of relevance to you
And, you need not have Union Station drive your hotel decision. With e-Tickets in hand (purchase online %26amp; print out at home), you can board the Old Town Trolley at *any* of its stops:

I agree with CockleCove. I think the Melrose is a good choice. It%26#39;s a great location and has a nice restaurant (Poste - it%26#39;s pricey, but there%26#39;s also a nice large bar for just a drink). It is fairly contemporary, like many Kimpton hotels, but I think it%26#39;s quite nice. Perhaps you can contact the hotel and find out if they have a ';romance package.'; Maybe they have a room with a particularly nice view or something and/or they can have champagne waiting in your room, etc.
Otherwise, have you looked into the Mayflower? The atmosphere there may be more traditionally romantic. Also - I know you don%26#39;t want a B%26amp;B, but have you considered the Tabard Inn? It may be worth a look if the more traditional hotels are too expensive. The restaurant there is actually considered one of DC%26#39;s most romantic. It%26#39;s near Dupont Circle, which is a nice place to stay in DC.
Good luck!
