how far is a block? Carlyle Suites to Dupont?

Please tell me....how far is a block?

The Carlyle suites, for instance says 3 blocks to the metro at Dpont Circle. That doesn%26#39;t acually mean anything unless you know how long a block is. Is it a set distance?

Has anyone stayed in the Carlyle suites recently and recommend them. We think we might be better there than the Holiday Inns nearer the Mall for eating and walking in the evening.

Are we right?

';Blocks'; in DC is a term of art due to the diagonal streets bisecting the normal grid pattern, and the uneven size of the blocks. Go to www.stationmasters.com and click on the ';Dupont Circle'; metro station. That%26#39;ll give you a visual of how far it is from each exit and from the Circle itself.

thanks so much for that info -most , most useful.

It puts the place in a picture in my mind

According to Google Maps, the Carlyle Suites, at New Hampshire %26amp; 17th, is exactly 1/2 mile from Dupont Circle.

Thanks

.That%26#39;s a bit further that we thought. At the end of the day, and possibly in the middle, too for a change of walking shoes, that could be quite a bugbear having walked for miles already around the city.

Perhaps we might be better at a different hotel, tho%26#39; I liked the sound of the Carlyle suites.

I think Carlyle Suites is definitely walkable from the metro - 3 blocks is more how the crow flies, or whatever that saying is. 5 blocks is about right. Mapquest says its .35 miles. Three of my colleagues stayed there last year and they liked it. It%26#39;s a great location for the evening. Many options between Dupont, Adams Morgan, U Street and 17th Street area. I highly recommend Hank%26#39;s Oyster Bar at 17th and Q, very small, but good, well-priced food.
