Hotel Opinions needed

I am planning a trip December 26-30. We will be driving down from NYC .

I am looking for a hotel for 2 people. I come to town for business alot, but my boyfriend has never been. I am looking for a hotel located within walking distance to the metro in a safe location. We would like to be close to restaurants and shopping too. I am willing to pay good money, since he has not been, but I am not interested in the most expensive place in town if it is in the middle of the business district and nothing is open after 5:00. We also need parking.

We would not object to Alexandria as an option.

Diayanne:

I%26#39;d recommend first looking in the city in the Penn Quarter, Foggy Bottom and Dupont Circle areas. All those areas have easy access to the National Mall and to nightlife/restaurants. Penn Quarter or Dupont are probably the best, in my opinion, but Foggy Bottom is close to Georgetown and Dupont so you have a lot of options close by.

I%26#39;m not sure what prices and availability will be like at that time of year, but some places to look at include:

Hotel Monaco

Courtyard by Marriott Convention Center

Embassy Suites (22nd Street or Convention Center location)

St. Gregory

River Inn

Melrose

One Washington Circle

Jurys Washington Hotel

Carlyle Suites

Alexandria is pretty around Christmastime, but if you%26#39;ll be spending most of your time in the city, I%26#39;d really only consider it if the price was significantly less or if you find limited availability in the city. Most likely candidates there will be near the King Street metro - Residence Inn, Hilton, Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn (make sure it%26#39;s the one near the metro)

Try to narrow down your options then post again for specific opinions on what%26#39;s available. Good luck!

Most if not all of the downtown DC is a safe location.

Some hotels that may interest you, check this site for comments:

-Sofitel

-Hotel Monaco- $230.00 p/night and about $20.00 for valet parking p/day.

-The Fairmont Hotel: DC%26#39;s West End location. Next to Georgetown not far from Dupont Circle. 2 metro stations w/in a 10 minute walk or so. About $160.00-$200.00 p/night.

-The Ritz Carlton DC- about $260.00 p/night Valet parking. Near Georgetown.

Dupont Circle and Georgetown are nice for after 5. There are some nice hotels in Dupont Circle and Georgetown as well. Although Georgetown isn%26#39;t on the metro line. But if you stay in between these areas, you can%26#39;t go wrong.

-Old Town Alexandria is also an option.

-Crystal City/Pentagon City is also another option.
