White House Tree Lighting

Has anyone been to this event? Just wondering if it is worth a trip.

White House Tree Lighting

A visit to the tree itself is an annual ritual for me. The actual ceremony I only attended once a few years back because I had family in town who wanted to go. Honestly, I wouldn%26#39;t do it again unless I had ';pull'; on Capitol Hill or at the White House. The general public viewing area is pretty far away from the goings-ons.

For several years after 9/11 there was no public viewing area for the tree lighting. Seats were reserved for political types and service members. I think last year you needed to get tickets for it, but there were very few available and they were gone within minutes. All of that being said, I did attend once back in 2000 and it was really awful because it was freezing and raining. I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;re missing out on much by not going.

This event was the highlight of my childhood years. It is a majestic thing to watch as all the lights are turned out and as the choir sings in the background. Though, many of my friends say that the lighting just isn%26#39;t worth it and you should just go visit the trees one day...Even if you don%26#39;t go see the lighting at the very least you should go spend an hour or so looking at all the trees and taking a picture with your state tree!

Also, in my opinion the captiol tree is way prettier than the white house one and it is usually less crowded there, so it is just more enjoyable. I can remember my large family playing frisbee one night there under the lights%26#39; glow!

For Christmas lovers, they are a must!
