I am thinking of bringing my 89 year old veteran father to DC the end of March or so. He%26#39;s gets around pretty well for his age and can probably walk a mile with rest breaks. He%26#39;d like to see the WWII memorial and the Air/Space museum. I thought of flying into Reagan. Can someone suggest a hotel near the metro? Any other suggestions are welcome
Thanks

There are many good hotels near Metro stations. In order to give you some suggestions--what price range are you looking at?

You have many options. Do you want to stay near the airport? Do you want to stay in the Central downtown location? I reccomend staying in the downtown area of DC. There are many hotels near a metro. Check out (www.wmata.com) to see a complete map of the metro system. Also what is your budget and how long will you be here.
Flying into Reagan is good. It%26#39;s the closest to downtown. Also a lot of hotels downtown may or may not provide transportation to your hotel from the airport. If not you can use the many options available from the airport. A cab ride wouldn%26#39;t cost too much. With luggage and your father, I suggest using a taxi or one of the shuttle services provided.
There are a few metro stations directly near or w/in walking distance to the WWII memorial and to the Air %26amp; Space Museum
-Smithsonian Station would be closest for the WWII Memorial
-L%26#39;Enfant Plaza station for the Air %26amp; Space Museum. They are only one station apart and some people walk but the WWII memorial sort of sits on the other side (on the faaaaaarrrr side of the monument/mall area.)
Some hotel suggestions. Some have a decor that your father may enjoy (early 20th century themed some are little more modern)
-Downtown Marriott: www.marriott.com
-JW Marriott
-Hotel Washington (www.hotelwashington.com) he might like the decor and atmoshpere of this one.
-Madison Hotel (www.themadisondc.com)
-Hay Adams (www.hayadams.com) can be a little bit on the high end but don%26#39;t know your budget.
The Mayflower is nice and centrally located.
I%26#39;d recommend one of those trolley tours to minimize the walking and increase the amount of energy he%26#39;ll have doing more walking in the museums.
There aren%26#39;t a lot of good places to eat near all the attractions. It helps to take the metro up to someplace like Dupont Circle where there are more restaurants.
Wow, you all have a lot of good suggestions! I%26#39;d like to keep the hotel under $200
Check out sites like Expedia, Travelzoo, Orbitz, and quikbook to see what is offered in your price range. Once you narrow down your choices, read the reviews of the hotels on this page. It will help you come to an informed decision. Also, if you have any questions about a particular hotel, please post back.
