Tours

I just heard back from my congressman and these are the tours and times:

Oct 5th US Capitol 8:30 AM Library of Congress 1:45 PM

Oct. 6th 9:45 Archives tour, White House Noon (or White House on Oct. 11 10:30 AM) Kennedy Center 4:30 PM

What do you think? What should we add on our own to these? Thanks....

Tours

Are you looking for more tours to take or are you just looking for other things to do? If it%26#39;s the latter, you could check out the Smithsonian%26#39;s website (www.si.edu) to see which museums interest you. Also, plan to take a walk along the Mall and see the monuments and memorials. If it is other tours you%26#39;re looking for, you could take a ';monuments by moonlight'; tour (http://www.historictours.com/washington/) this is the same website for the Old Town Trolley and the DC Ducks Tour. You could visit Mount Vernon (mountvernon.org/visit/plan/index.cfm/pid/29/)

Tours

I%26#39;m just wondering if the tour at the Archives at 9:45 would give us enough time to do the White House at 12:00...Or should we do the White House on a different day? I just don%26#39;t know how long these are or how far a part they are...

I don%26#39;t think you want to take a chance on combining the White House and the Archives on the same day. The Archives tour starts at 9:45, but you have to go through security, etc, so it will be 10:00 before you even begin. That leaves you with maybe an hour and a half in the Archives, before trekking a mile down Pennsylvania Ave to the White House.

Be aware, there are restrictions on what you can take into the White House (ie NO CAMERAS etc.), so you might have to ditch your belongings along the way--and where are you going to do that?

Better to do the White House on a separate day.

I don%26#39;t think you%26#39;ll have much time between the tours of the Capitol and the Library of Congress, except maybe to catch some lunch. I heard the cafeteria at the Supreme Court building serves good food, and it%26#39;s right across the street from the Capitol and the LOC.

I would definalty switch the White House to another day you don%26#39;t want to short your visit to the National archives. I would add the Supreme court to the first day it is right next door to the LoC. They have scheduled tours or a free walk you can take. Union station is a medium walk from there for a bite to eat and quick shopping. 2 of my nephews were boooored.( you can just hear them whining). If you don%26#39;t mind walking you could go to one of the smithsonians in the late afternoon. The second day maybe add the Spy museum. You do have to pay for that one but it is alot of fun. It is located near the MCA metro stop or a quick walk from Chinatown. There is a great BBQ place in Chinatown. Don%26#39;t forget that the museum of American History is undergoing renovation and parts are closed. Definatly add the World War II memorial, Lincoln , Vietnam and Korean memorials. I enjoyed seeing the Washington monument but didn%26#39;t go up it. The Holocaust museum was worth the visit. The Portrait Gallery was closed when I was there but it just reopened. It is near the Spy museum. Hope this is helpful. Have fun.
