Family of 4 - one week - Metro tickets?

We%26#39;ll be in DC for a week in October and will be using the bus and metro a lot. We are two adults, one 16 year old and one 13 year old.

What is the most convenient ticket to get? I am prepared to spend a few dollars more if I don%26#39;t have to tangle with ticket machines x 4 every day.

No need to visit the metrocard machines that often.

Get four metro cards when you get here. Each person needs their own card; they can%26#39;t be shared or combined. If you%26#39;ll be riding frequently then put at least ten dollars on each card. Twenty if you will each be riding several times per day. Each time you ride the fare is subtracted from the value stored on the card.

When your cards get down toward three dollars or so per card, you%26#39;ll need to estimate how many more times you ride and add money to the cards (actually, buy a new card, trading-in the old card).

I suppose you could get passes but unless I%26#39;m mistaken the opportunities to purchase them may be limited to a few stations. Search the wmata.com site.

-You could just purchase a weekly pass for bus and metro. Check out the metro website (www.wmata.com) for specific prices and daily amounts.

-The Smart Trip Card can be purchased for $5.00 each . But that is $20.00 times the amount you download on the card. i.e. you purchase 4 cards ($20.00). Then you would put about $20.00 on each card. The card can be used on the bus as well as metro. Only problem is once you buy it your stuck with it and the $5.00 goes in the trash. This card allows you to swipe over top of the magnetic strips on the train station entry gate as well as the bus payment machine.

There were 5 of us and we used the metro alot. I purchase each of us a card and put $20 on each card. I did have to add a few $ at the end but it worked great. Every person myst have there own card.
