Sightseeing with a 14 month old

Any suggestions? My main worry is that I know some places do not allow strollers, backpacks, etc. Are there any places to store these types of items such as lockers in metro stations. I have a carrying harness but can not carry her all day long!

There are lockers at Union Station, although I%26#39;m not sure how convenient that is for you. It%26#39;s really the only place I know of. There are no lockers in metro stations. There are lockers at the Supreme Court, but you probably wouldn%26#39;t want to go there with a 14 month old. (I don%26#39;t think they%26#39;re allowed in the courtroom anyway). What hotel will you be staying in? In your case, it may be a good idea to try to find a hotel close to the National Mall or at least very close to a metro so if you did need to head back during the day it would be fairly easy. I believe the only place you%26#39;ll have a problem is the White House and maybe the Capitol building? But you may want to skip those tours with a 14 month old anyway (and the WH tour needs to be booked in advance through your Senator or Congressman). There are still lots of fun places to go. Natural History, Air and Space and the National Building Museum come to mind first. The National Building Museum is off the mall, but has a fairly large play space for tots. The Natural History Museum also has a hands-on discovery room. And of course, the zoo is always fun if the weather is nice.

No lockers near the mall area.

What you could do, if you did have a tour of the white house, capital buildings, just do that on a different day.

Those are the only places I believe that don%26#39;t allow strollers. All of the museums allow strollers and backpacks, they just check them as you walk in.

Places that don%26#39;t allow strollers usually have a parking lot full of them. Unless you have a Peg Perego, I wouldn%26#39;t worry about it.

I would suggest staying at a hotel with lots of public rooms, as children love to run around at that age and you will go crazy if the only place you can sit is in your bedroom. If there is outside space, better still.
