Hi,

i%26#39;m going with my grlfriend to DC in October 16 th. We plan on staying maybe 2 or 3 or even 4 or more nights if we get a good hotel deal. We travelled the whole world so we are used to tourist hotels. Any ideas ?? Under 100 dollars, and close to public transportation ?? We are arriviing at Dulles. Should we rent a car for a couple of days or not ??

-The selection of hotels in DC under $100.00 is less than a handful. Take into consideration that public transportation is cheap. A lot of the tourist attractions and things to see are FREE. i.e. Museums, Monuments, Zoo, etc. So you would be saving a lot of money in that area and can put it toward a nicer hotel. Meaning you won%26#39;t be in a motel in a bad neighborhood with dirty ammenitites.

-I suggest NOT renting a car. Parking at the hotels will be at least $15.00 p/day or more. And then just navigating DC streets and trying to find a parking space when you venture out is terrible.

-You could look into staying outside of DC. Some nice areas that ARE near public transportation just a few blocks away from the metro.

-Arlington (Pentagon City/Crystal City area)

-Rosslyn

-Old Town Alexandria

-Bethesda (Downtown or Chevy Chase)

DC areas that are nice and probably would be a good area for you and your friend:

-Dupont Circle

-Adams Morgan (mainly for nightlife and dining)

-Immediate Downtown area near Chinatown, Verizon Center, etc

Check out metro%26#39;s website to see the map of the train system and the operating schedule and fees. (www.wmata.com)

thanks a lot.

Mid-October can be tough, especially in your price range. I did a quick search and found the Virginian Suites for $159/night. It%26#39;s a nice hotel, good location, in Rosslyn (Arlington, VA) - walking distance (if you like to walk alot) to Georgetown for shopping/restaurants/nightlife or close to metro for an easy ride into the city.

You could also try the Americana Motel in Crystal City. It%26#39;s clean, safe and basic, only 3 metro stops from the main tourist attractions.

Are you willing to use Hotwire or Priceline? That may help you find a good deal. Otherwise, you could also check some of the B%26amp;Bs.

I also think renting a car is not a good idea, especially on a budget. Public transportation is a bit of a hassle from Dulles, but the cost of a rental car and parking fees will add up quickly.

Good luck!

Any idea of how I can make reservations for the Americana Hotel ?? I cant find it in the net for a reservation ???!!!!!

The Americana does not have its own web site, but you can make a reservation via

http://www.travelhero.com

They are presently showing availability for the nights you wish at a rate of $99/night (does not include taxes).

You might also wish to consider one of the less expensive B%26amp;B%26#39;s/guest houses in DC itself:

I used Priceline last year when we went for a night out in the District and got the JW Marriott. Great location and the rate was good too since I picked it. Might give it a try. They are fairly specific in the areas you can choose. If you choose the White House area you will probably get the JW too. Worth a try. Worst they can do is just deny your request. Only rent a car if you plan on leaving the district to see something.
