nighttime walking tour of monuments-SAFE???

I am planning a trip in November for a Girl Scout troop of 15-17 year olds, 9 girls and 5 female adults. It has been suggested that we tour the monuments at night and we worked this into our 2-day itinerary. The more I read, the more I am becoming concerned about our safety touring this area at night (7-9 p.m.). For those of you that live here or are familiar with DC, can you advise if we should do this or not in terms of safety?

I am most appreciative of your replies.

You really do have safety in numbers lol.

While there were a few crimes around the monuments over the summer, the individuals commiting them were caught and there have been no recent events.

Hey, it%26#39;s a big city, never say ';never';...but don%26#39;t think a group of 14 people walking around together would be the first target of someone looking to rob someone.

You should be fine, just make sure the group knows the rules, no wandering off alone, etc.

If you walk the Mall and avoid lonely areas... I wouldn%26#39;t wander up into the business district or anyplace bound to be deserted at that time of day.

I was there last Nov and walked around late and felt fine 7-9 pm.. but I also felt that it would be unwise to go wandering into lonely areas. It%26#39;s a big city. And... if you have a pack of pretty young girls ... you might attract attention that someone else might not.

If you%26#39;re on the Mall area and your hotel is in an okay area, then... it%26#39;s thinkable.

You%26#39;ll have no problems at the monuments as many tourists are still going through late at night. Some monuments are best viewed in the evening, especially the FDR and WWII. All of the monuments are lit up at night, and the area is quite beautiful. Also, there is a very noticeable police presence in the area. I don%26#39;t believe that you will have any problems. Have a great trip!
