Hi,
I am in charge of planning a family reunion next summer in DC. We are looking for a hotel (not neccessarily in DC but close to a metro station) that has a fairly big pool. There will be about 12 families and more than 21 children. We were thinking that a nice pool would accomodate people who might want to opt out of some of the sightseeing activities at times. because we are dealing with som many families with different income levels we are trying to find something on the more inexpensive side. Any ideas?
Thanks!
inexpensive hotel with nice pool for reunion
Since you will have a group, check with the hotel to see if they can do a group rate. Also not too many hotels in DC have a ';LARGE'; pool and especially none that are reasonably priced.
Check out the Embassy Suites. I think the one on 22nd street would be a better location for the group. They cater to families. The have banquet/meeting facilities. They give free cooked-to-order breakfast. They have an indoor heated pool/jacuzzi/sauna. Maybe not the biggest in the world but good enough. Most of the group won%26#39;t all be there at the same time. Also they have 2 BR suites which means 2 families can share a room to cut down on the cost.
There are 2 metro stations within less than 10 minute walk. Nice restaurants and shopping in this area all in walking distance. Georgetown is near this location and everyone likes to take a stroll in Georgetown. Dupont Circle is also in this location for the older ones.
There are other hotels in DC that may fit but check this one out first.
Also try these cities and hotels:
-Old Town Alexandria (about 3 hotels directly at or right near the metro. Just outside of DC but metro can take you there)

Old Town Alexandria:
-Embassy Suites- near a metro. pool. complimentary shuttle to public transportation.
-Holiday Inn Hotel %26amp; Suites, indoor and outdoor pool, nice rooms, clean, should be in a reasonable price range.
What do you consider to be inexpensive? It will help to know that in order to give more specific suggestions.
I was hoping to find something that was $100.00 or less per night.
Thanks for the ideas!
I would be pleasantly surprised if the Embassy Suites on 22nd Street falls within your price range; 2-bedroom suites there (of which they don%26#39;t have many) seemed to be typically averaging $350-400/night this summer. So, how about giving these folks a call? It seems to have developed a good reputation in the travel industry

I%26#39;d also call the official visitors/tourism bureaus for DC, Alexandria, and Arlington to see if they can%26#39;t help you reduce the amount of ';legwork'; needed to put this together; the Arlington website is thoughtful enough to include a special section on Reunions %26amp; Weddings :-)

Less than $100 a night near a metro with a pool may be tough!
Here are some suggestions... definitely contact the hotel directly and speak to a group sales agent. With more than 10 rooms, you should get a group discount.
Holiday Inn Washington - On the Hill (in DC)
Doubletree Guest Suites (in DC)
Hampton Inn -Convention Center (in DC)
Omni Shoreham (in DC)
Holiday Inn Central/White House (in DC)
Holiday Inn Capitol (in DC)
Doubletree Crystal City (Arlington)
Radisson Hotel Reagan National Airport (Arlington)
Holiday Inn Rosslyn (Arlington)
Holiday Inn Ballston (Arlington)
Holiday Inn Bethesda (Bethesda, MD)
Hope this helps you get started. Other hotels in the Crystal City area of Arlington may also work. Check the TA reviews. Good luck!
I always put the plug in (since it is my hometown), but you could also check out Rockville, MD or Gaithersburg, MD. There are a lot of hotels in the area around the Rio at Washingtonian Center that offer suite-sized room and are under $100 a night. The Residence chain has evening receptions during the week and free breakfast. The only glitch is that you are about 2-3 miles drive to the metro in this area (Shady Grove or Rockville on the red line).
There are Doubletree and Ramada Hotels on Rockville Pike that are right in front of the Twinbrook Metro on the Red Line and would probably be in your price range. My family has had some events at the Doubletree (rehearsal dinner and a brunch) and the hotel is beautiful on the inside. I believe it also has a nice pool. There is a large outdoor shopping area right across the street too so it is an ideal location. I haven%26#39;t been to the Ramada in a long time, and not a huge fan of the chain, but might be a more inexpensive option. Can%26#39;t really think of much else on the Pike, they did open a Marriott Conference Center close to the White Flint metro, but the rates are a bit high from what I recall, after that you get into Bethesda...
Take care and good luck!
