Hotel near White House/Congress?

I was going to stay at the Hampton Inn on 6th, but then I got to thinking. I would really like to be within walking distance so that the morning after I arrive, I can explore a bit before I jump in the car and head to PA.

Any ideas near or within reasonable walking distance that is safe for a single lady to stay on her first trip to DC? Reasonably priced would be great as well! Thanks.

What do you consider to be reasonably priced? Near the White House there is the Sofitel, Hilton Garden Inn, the Hay Adams, The St. Regis, and the Willard. Of these mentioned, the Hilton Garden would be the cheapest.

And do you mind paying $24 a day for hotel parking?

The Americana Inn in Arlington VA is right across the river, three Metro stops (10 mins) from downtown, and offers free parking and a shuttle. You can find her mentioned in other posts by using the search function at the top of this page.

Thanks for the suggestions! I think I am going to go with the Capital Hilton. Paying for parking does not bother me in a metro area. And to me, I would rather be close to the places I want to see then hassle with an unfamiliar metro system ~ even if everyone on this boards says it%26#39;s easy to use.

I am a politics major and for some odd reason, I just want to be close to the Political Mecca of the US ;0) Now didn%26#39;t that sound geeky?
