Hi,
I am going to be staying at the Holiday Inn on the Hill in DC soon, Can anybody recommend some cheap places to eat where the food is good.
I prefer a good steak, basic cuisine really. Quite like Italian (love a good pizza, anywhere does take out or delivery to hotels - in Capitol area??)
Also quite like chinese food, again, anywhere that does take out or good chinese restaurant in Capitol area??
Thanks for any suggestions.

If a get a chance, I will come back and make a few recommendations. But the Washingtonian is definitely a trusted source of mine for restaurant info.

Not sure any of the good pizza places deliver. You could use TakeOut Taxi. They have a very good selection of restaurants.

Matchbox and Ella%26#39;s are two good places in Chinatown.
DC Chophouse is a good steak place. My favortie is Smith and Wollensky%26#39;s.
Olive%26#39;s is good italian.
Someone earlier mentioned the mongolian bbq in Chinatown but I have never been.
I wanted to come back and make a few suggestions for places that I have been to.
I agree with the other poster who said that many of the good pizza places probably don%26#39;t deliver. But I know you can do carry-out at Matchbox in Chinatown. I wouldn%26#39;t recommend Ella%26#39;s for carry-out, because the food doesn%26#39;t seem as good as the food you get when you eat there.
Also, a couple of good Chinese places in Chinatown where you could do takeout:
Tony Cheng%26#39;s (the upstairs restaurant, not the Mongolian BBQ downstairs--I%26#39;ve never been to the Mongolian BBQ)--619 H Street NW
Chinatown Express--746 6th Street NW
There%26#39;s also a little Vietnamese place a couple doors down from Chinatown Express--I don%26#39;t know the name, and it is a total hole in the wall, but the people there are so friendly and I LOVE their pho!
Also, for good pan-Asian food, bento boxes, and tea, try Teaism--400 8th Street NW
I wish I could give you more of the ';basics'; you are looking for--DC has never had a huge Italian community, so most of the good Italian here tends to be on the pricey side. With steakhouses, there are plenty of good ones (from what I hear!), but they are also very pricey and cater to the expense-account set.
Hope this helps!
A few places to try nearby:
America Restaurant in Union Station
Capital City Brewery
For delivery:
Armands Chicago Pizzeria may deliver - 202-547-6600 (I believe this is deep dish pizza)
As the other posters mentioned, you are pretty close to Chinatown/Penn Quarter. You can find some good, cheap food in that neighborhood.
If you don%26#39;t care about your cholesterol, Ben%26#39;s Chili Bowl is a DC institution. They serve great (and greasy) hot dogs and fries. It%26#39;s right on a metro stop too.
Just in case you like chinese food. Here is a list of restaurants you can try:
