I%26#39;m from Texas, so I haven%26#39;t really seen beautiful fall foliage in a long time.
So, in DC, when is the best time(s) to see the leaves changing colors? And where (which parks?) are the best places to view them?
Must be able to get to these places by public transit.
best places to see fall foliage?
Unfortunately, some the best areas to see fall foliage you would need to drive to. Another suggestion would be to go to Rock Creek Park in DC or take a walk along the C%26amp;O Canal. BTW, usually foliage isn%26#39;t at its peak until well into October but every year the peak dates are different.

What areas/parts of Rock Creek Park (which trails, etc) are best? It looks like a pretty big park.
Take a Taxi to Great falls.
Rock Creek Park is best for immediate DC Area that is closest to Public Transportation.
A lot of people rent bikes to see Rock Creek Parkway - you can start at the Georgetown end and take the bike trail all the way north to the Grosvenor Metro station, and then board Metro with your bikes and head back downtown. Or vice versa.
I like the C%26amp;O idea.
Take Metro to Foggy Bottom/GWU then walk down to Thompson%26#39;s boat house opposite the end of Virginia Ave. as it dead-ends at the Rock Creek parkway. Rent a bike and take it along the canal trail in the direction of Great Falls. Not only will you see the fall colors, but also the canal and the beautiful vista of the Potomac. I%26#39;m fairly sure you can also rent bikes at one or more of the Georgetown bike shops.
The canal trail is crushed gravel with some hard packed dirt, and is totally flat.
