We will be going to Washington DC December 5. We have a Capital Tour scheduled for 12n. There will be 2 adults and 2 children 13-10years. I diffently want to go to Arlington Cemetery. Can you suggest the other must sees for a one day trip. We will be staying in Baltimore? Also, did I read somewhere that you can buy an unlimited pass for Metro? If so, is this good for the rail and bus? Any suggestions or help would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks

I%26#39;m not sure if it%26#39;s worth it to get an unlimited metro pass for such a short amount of time, but someone can correct me.
I assume you%26#39;ll be taking the train from Baltimore? If so, depending on what time you arrive, you may be able to take in a quick museum on the National Mall before you head to the Capitol. If there%26#39;s not enough time for that, consider going to the Postal Museum right next to Union Station. It%26#39;s gotten good reviews and they often have kids activities there.
After the Capitol Tour, I%26#39;d probably go straight to Arlington Cemetary on the metro from Union Station. You may want to take the Tourmobile in order to cover alot of ground since this is your major ';must see.';
After that you probably won%26#39;t have much time since most of the museums are only open until 5:30 pm. If you can make it to a musuem, I%26#39;d probably go with Air and Space or Natural History due to the ages of your kids. Then, if it%26#39;s not too cold, I%26#39;d suggest a walk around some of the memorials, like Vietnam Veterans and the Lincoln Memorial (if those are of interest).
Hope this helps!

Thank you,
This does help. If all goes well, we are going to try to tour a little on Monday December 4. Knowing the museums close by 5:30 was a big help. Thanks again.
The Metro passes are good only for the rail system, and cost around $6 per person. Compare that to the cost of a guided Tourmobile or Old Town Trolley tour, which takes you to all the popular tourist destinations in DC (and for an extra $6, they%26#39;ll take you on a guided drive through Arlington Cemetery. You can find more info by searching through these forums or clicking on the ';Washington DC Overview'; guide to the left.
You might want to make note of the DC Circulator busses. They have a couple circular routes - including one that now tours the mall area. So, for just $1 (or $.35 if you have metro transfer) you can ride the DC circulator around all the Smithsonian museums and get a nice view of at least one or two monuments.
Here is their web site - http://www.dccirculator.com/
ALso, here is a link that gives info about unlimited metro pass. You want to note that you can use it after 9:30 am, not sure if that%26#39;s problem for you?

Have fun!
