Is Thanksgiving a good time for a trip to DC with wife and 2 kids, 8 and 11. Want to see the usual historical sights. Also, any good deals on hotels?
Thanksgiving WeekendThanksgiving Day itself can be a great time for visiting the museums. Not very crowded at all as most people have other plans for the day.
The day AFTER Thanksgiving is another story. Seems like everyone in town has family in for the holiday and they ALL want to go sightseeing after being cooped up together in the house the day before.
Thanksgiving WeekendHi there! I always come in for Thanksgiving to visit my hometown (aka DC) and see my family. I%26#39;m not sure about hotels in the city, however if you stay in the burbs (if you will have a car) you can find some good rates (below $100) in the Rockville/Gaithersburg/Bethesda area. All are on the metro red line. These are usual rates for the area though, nothing too special.
Flying out on Sunday is a mess, did it last year and were a ton of delays. This year flying on Saturday which is going to be cheaper and it appears less of a hassle. You should be good on the historical sites on Friday and Saturday, but make sure to bundle up, can get windy and pretty cold (which, if you are from MI, you are used to :)).
Good luck and safe travels!
The day after Thanksgiving is historically the most crowded day at the musuems. I%26#39;ve shown my family around that day and been ok, but it is incredibly crowded. Personally, I%26#39;m not big on crowded exhibits, but it is doable.
