Will be in DC 2 days next week. Staying at the Omni Shoreham hotel in the zoo area. There is a Metro stop right by the hotel.
Plan to visit the National Portrait Gallery, Bureau of Engraving, Library of Congress, Patent Office, International Spy Museum and National Museum of The American Indian.
Can we easily visit the above attractions with our rental car or would we be better off using the Metro? If we use the car will parking fees be excessive?
Thank you
Metro Or Rental Car To get Around?
I would recommend relying on metro and not even bothering with a rental car. The Omni Shoreham charges $23/day for parking, and on top of that, you would have to pay for parking everywhere you go. And you will most likely find it difficult to find parking in downtown DC, especially if you are there on weekdays.
Everywhere you want to go is easily accessible by metro and a little walking, and the metro is also very close to your hotel. That would probably be your best option.
Metro Or Rental Car To get Around?
You%26#39;re better off using metro. It%26#39;s a waste of your short time here to drive around looking for parking. If you end up in a lot, it will likely cost you about $7 for the first hour or $15 for the day. The only place you%26#39;d probably use the car is for the patent office, which I believe is in Alexandria (although the new building may be right by the metro, so it%26#39;s a possibility). Is that even open to the public? Someone else may know better than me.
Stick with Metro. All of the places you want to visit are along the metro line. And the amount of money these hotels charge for parking is crazy.
Definitely go with Metro. You can spend all of your 2 days trying to figure out how to navigate DC%26#39;s myriad of one-way streets.

And with all the money you%26#39;ll be saving by not renting a car, you can splurge on a taxi, if necessary.
Thanks for the good info. We will be arriving at the hotel in a rental car.
