suggest Hotel Near Metro? vs near National mall?

Will stay in NY for new years eve and found better hotel rates in Jersey city (hyatt) and use metro to visit manhattan.

In Washington DC found most attractions near national mall. Will arrive Reagan airport. Considering rates is better to be in a hotel near national mall or out of the area and use metro? Is metro going to Reagan airport? If its cheaper out of the area what hotels are near a metro station? will travel with my family (2 teens)

Here%26#39;s a metro map...

In Rosslyn...Hyatt is one block away from the metro stop. If you%26#39;re willing to walk a little (5-10 minutes), Key Bridge Marriott and Holiday Inn Rosslyn Key Bridge offer a gorgeous view overlooking the Potomac River and Key Bridge. Cross Key Bridge and you%26#39;re in Georgetown.

At Pentagon City...I%26#39;ve heard the Ritz, which is just up the escalator of the metro stop, is only a little more expensive than the Rosslyn Hyatt. And connected to the Ritz is the Pentagon City shopping mall. Across the street is Costco, my favorite store.

I always recommend this hotel. It is the Holiday Inn on Capitol Hill...just renovated and very nice. Good prices too. It is literally right across from the Air and Space Museum. Also, it is on the south side of the national mall, so not nearly as crowded where all the other hotels are. L%26#39;Enfant Plaza metro stop is right outside the front door.

Highly recommend it.

There are hotels near enough to the mall... and the metro is at the mall... Smithsonian Station is right there... the Mayflower and Hay Adams are close enough... also the Capitol Hill ones....

Last time i visited, i got great rates in Crystal City, which is not near the mall but a 15-20 minute metro ride away ... for us, it was worth saving the money, but I left thinking that I%26#39;d want to try to get closer to the mall next time around...

The trade-off is your basic ';price-vs-convenience';. You will find the non-DC hotels (many of which are quite close) less expensive. You will find the hotels close to the Mall (such as the very good Holiday Inn Capitol, noted above) allow you to go back for a short midday rest, if so desired. Make your pick based on which one is the greater priority to you.
